I absolutely love Ethiopian food and was desperately trying to find a good place when I moved back to California. Abyssinia Restaurant is the place!! It's so delicious!! If you never had Ethiopian, I definitely recommend this place and try it out. I would compare the eating style to Indian food in terms of using naan as a utensil to scoop up food to eat. As a vegetarian I get the Veggie Combo which is different dishes placed on injera (a spongy fermented flatbread) which you tear and use to scoop the food. So sooooo gooood. I definitely plan to go again and introduce more friends and family to Ethiopian cuisine.

Moved to OC about 3 years ago, and was pretty bummed because I thought I'd have to drive all the way to little Ethiopia in LA to find good Ethiopian food. Abyssinia fixed that issue. Food is great, service is awesome, and the honey wine is perfect. Super happy to have found this

We are very fond of Ethopian food and tried this place last weekend. We loved the people and the ambiance. The welcome with roasting coffee beans was a unique experience. Loved the warmth. As far as the food goes, the vegetarian portion of the meal was great, but alas, the lamb and chicken weren't. The sauces were so good, but the lamb was tough, and the chicken had the flavor of boiled meat. The traditional Injera was perfect. Our server was very helpful and courteous and suggested great beers from Ethopian. The coffee at the end of the meal with the popcorn was very aromatic. All and all, a great experience.

Oh my gosh, wow!! Just got home from an incredible dinner. The owner is such a sweet hospitable man. The food is incredible!! You can taste the care and quality in every bite.I had the Ethiopian honey wine which is served cold and bubbly and packs quite the punch. It’s not sweet like I was expecting, which I really enjoyed and preferred. We shared a veggie combo along with the number 1 from the lamb menu. Everything was so delicious and high quality. After speaking to the owner, he told us he is a chemist, which makes total sense! His food and flavors are articulated down to the molecules. He serves filtered water NOT tap water which is so rare at a little ma and pop place such as this. We felt very cared for and takes care of.The Ethiopian coffee is so good! They roast and grind the beans in house.Everything is amazingly curated and so much food and an overall very pleasant experience. I would eat here every week and am looking forward to our next visit. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Wonderful Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant in OC! I’m so happy I found this place instead of having to drive to LA for some authentic Ethiopian food. We ordered the traditional combo for 2 and a plate of Awaze Tibs. It was very flavorful and had enough to take home. They also have a traditional coffee ceremony on Fridays at 6pm - get there early because it gets busy!

This place is great, highly recommended! You will find all the things you expect at an Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant. Special things that make it great include samosa appetizers and an innovative okra watt. Loved that they had Fanta in the classic glass bottles. Enjoy!

Owner was rude and said we needed a reservation to eat there. Asked if we could order to go and said no, come back in 30 mins.Apparently they don't take to-go order and require reservations only. There was 5 open tables. Drove an hour from west covina to eat here. Super disappointed. Ended up going to beteseb about 3 mins away.

Placed an order with place for the kitfo special which come with collard greens and ayib, I was told they were out of ayib (cheese) so I asked if he could substitute with lentils. He says we usually don't do that but it's the new year. Pick up the food $42, I get home I have a salad for the greens and realized I was charge for the lentils that was suppose to be included. This is first going to an Ethiopian place on the West Coast and will probably be my last if this is how it work. East Coast always on point, got what you need and if they don't have it, they recommend another place.

This is a family-owned restaurant with great food and great service. I don't want you Karens out there to complain about how long it takes because good food takes time to make.Come frequent this establishment.

Loved the flavors here better than other Ethiopian restaurants I’ve tried in Anaheim. Nice environment inside, too.

First time trying Ethiopian food and I chose Abyssinia Restaurant to be the place. I am happy to report that I loved the food! We ordered the Traditional Combo for 2 ($41), which comes with a small portion of a variety of stews and sides on top of a giant piece of injera and additional pieces of injera on the side. We also ordered Awaze Tibs with Lamb ($19). Man, everything tasted so good! I love bold flavors and every side and stew was flavorful. The injera had a really good sour taste to it - it's the kind of sour that I wish all sourdough bread would come in. What I didn't know was that you're supposed to use your hands only - we were not provided any plates or utensils to eat with. Not a big deal to ask for some, but the owner may give you the stink eye for doing so. Speaking of the owner, he's not the friendliest guy in town. Granted, he was working alone the day and time we came in so that could explain his rudeness. But I would probably be pretty flustered myself if I was the only one cooking and serving. For the lack of service and how long it took for the food to come out, I am going to order takeout the next time I come. The food is pretty expensive, but I would still come back because it was that good to me :).

Wonderful service and great food. Usually I have to go to LA for Ethiopian but this is wonderful for a quick fix. The vegetarian combo is huge and I had to take some home. The server/owner? was super welcoming and helpful.
