The Conscientious Critique

Being a conscientious critic and providing my critique, I have to weigh and address the obvious elephant in the room first. Being one who has eating at this establishment many times previous to the remodel, I have to fairly compare when critiquing. The previous look of the location was hands down more appealing and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, ears, mouth and soul. The designer they hired, obviously had a bland modern eye and lack of classic New Orleans flair that is needed to make a change but keep it amazing. The old look was timelessly southern niche and had that old world courtyard feel that anyone who has visited New Orleans loves. They sterilized it with hard lines and modern bland looks, trying to infuse Orleans with California, hard fail. The wall murals and some of the decor remained and that saved it a tad. The entry courtyard was stripped of it’s charm and gave a “back entry to a commercial building” feel. With a random orange patio chairs surrounding cheap tables, patio warmers and no eye catching decor, left one feeling hard pressed to justify the high price tag awaiting their wallets. To our dismay, the decor wasn’t the only thing to suffer the wrath of the modern stripping of one’s old Jazz Kitchen self, the menu suffered as well. It seemed to have taken a hit on selection and authentic southern style cuisine choices and flavors. Missing was the classic gumbo pot boing over with amazing spicy flavors that permeate the souls before even your first bite. Plated well for aesthetics, the meal itself lacked that washboard and creole vibe that you expect from a southern inspired eatery. With so many restaurants struggling with identity and uniqueness that sets them apart, Jazz Kitchen fell victim here. $35 for some basic noodles with cheese and chicken claiming to be spicy, it was a disappointment for sure. When one pays $24 for a hamburger and a handful of fries, that burger should sing on your tongue and make you cry yum, again, sadly disappointed. The music ambiance was delightful and the remaining wall art and inside decor offered a pleasing experience, so I would recommend, eating inside if possible. The drinks were made well and had a good poor to them providing a great mix of flavors and kick. The beignets were hot, fluffy and delicious. A tad on the oily side, but nonetheless, delicious. Overall, the real disappointment here was the overhaul and name change, that they envisioned to be a great thing, only to fall a little flatter than I agree with. Don’t come expecting authentic New Orleans cuisine and flair, this isn’t Tianna’s down on the Bayou experience you would expect while visiting a Disney Parks location. That you’re going to need to go inside the park for!

What a great spot for lunchDisney was getting a little crowded and we were famished so we popped into this restaurant and I’m so happy we didThey have both upstairs and downstairs seating so this place is perfect if you have a large partyGreat outdoor patio and if it’s not too hot this is a great opportunity to soak in some sun and enjoy the weatherI didn’t snag a picture but if you are looking for a non-alcoholic drink you should give their strawberry mint no-hito a tryIt was absolutely refreshingEveryone at the table was really excited that the garlic bread is back. Apparently this has been a staple delight that has not been on the menu for a few years but ITS BACKoh and make sure to squeeze the lemon juice over it for some reason it really make the butter and mozzarella popI got the gumbo and was in for a treatThe portion you see is their appetizer size and I felt full so it should be enough for 1 personMake sure to get dessertYou can’t go wrong with the classic beignets

Pasta jambalaya...kinda different. Not what I was expecting, but I asked them to make it spicy and they did so good job.Prices weren't great, but all the flavors were averagely satisfactory and unthreatening. Disney is good about playing it safe in the kitchen.Live saxophone was a bonus.

We had dinner here our first night in Anaheim and it was lovely. I was craving some New Orleans comfort food and this hit the spot. I ordered their cup of gumbo, a side of grits, and a Cesar salad. It was just the right amount of food for me and tasted so good. X had the lobster roll, which was a pretty big portion as well and he enjoyed it a lot. We were stuffed and didn’t end up having dessert, but the food was excellent.

I have an autoimmune disease and thought I would make it okay without my celery juice for three days. I was wrong, and I was in a lot of pain. Jamba juice doesn't make celery juice, so I asked the bartender at the Jazz Kitchen if she might be able to blend up some celery in her blender for me. She said her blender couldn't handle that, but got her manager and chef to help me. It took them some time to figure out what they were going to do, I didn't care, I was just happy someone was considering helping me. About 45 minutes later I had all the juice I needed for my trip. I felt better almost immediately. I am so grateful to their caring staff for taking their time to help me!Dietary restrictions: They listened to my needs

We had the pleasure of sitting on the upstairs terrace overlooking the sidewalk. The view was great and we couldn't have asked for better weather. Our server was quick to bring out our food and checked on us several times. The food was solid! The lobster and crawfish roll could have used a touch of extra remoulade and it would have been perfect. The beignets for dessert hit the spot.

The food here was terrible! The gumbo was nearly pureed, with no discernable chunks of seafood. And I was literally served like pig at a trough, with slop being dumped in a bowl. The beignets were the worst I've ever had. This is sad because it used to be so good. Avoid at all costs!

The beef medallions paired with bread was excellent. Would highly recommend being seated on the upper balcony if you can. Ashley was super friendly and knowledgeable.
