The pork trotter was dry! The whole point of that dish is the softness. The pork was either frozen or overcooked. $30+ dish. What a disappointment. Also the wok fried noodle had 2 tiny pieces of pork in the whole dish, we almost didnt know it was there ! Only thing that was good was the shen zien bao but if they were real shanghainese style it would have soup in them (no not xia long bao). Never again.

Terrible Shanghainese food. Not authentic at all, or just bad.

Excellent food. Service was quick too. They also have a wall of famous people that have visited this restaurant at one point. The heavy hitters are: Black Pepper Steak Cubes and Shanghailander Pan Fried Buns. The veggies were delicious too and so were the fish wrapped in some crunchy green stuff. They serve everything promptly and presentation is 10/10 too. There was no wait time on a Saturday night (they did ask us to leave like 5 mins after we had paid, but they are justified to do so, since another party was coming in). There is also parking in the back.

I have been there several times over the years and really like the Shanghailander Palace. If you like traditional Shanghainese food I would highly recommend it. There are plenty of Shanghai cold dishes and main dishes to choose from to fit your tastes. Can be a little pricy depending on your orders. A nice clean restaurant and the waiter's services are very warm and helpful. Takeout is pretty convenient as well.

Bad experience over there. We ordered house pot, we thought it should be the best one. But it came with mashed stinky shrimps, and rest of items, such as sea cucumber, just 2 pieces, and looks like left over for days, Chinese cabbage was stems mainly. Very bad experience
Excellent crispy fish. Also recommend the eggplant and string bean dishes.

I thought it was ok considering it’s not in a
major city. Worth the visit if you are in the area if you are looking for something to eat.

Five of us dined together and ordered a total of ten dishes—three appetizers and seven mains. The dishes were all quite authentic, showcasing solid technique and balanced flavors.
Appetizers included pickled radish, jellyfish with vinegar, and drunken chicken. The jellyfish stood out with its refreshing crunch and well-balanced acidity. The drunken chicken had a nicely layered wine marinade—aromatic but not overpowering.
On to the main courses: cauliflower with smoked bacon in casserole, stir-fried fresh abalone with ginger and scallion, meatball stuffed with salted egg yolk, vermicelli in casserole, and glutinous shao mai, among others. The vermicelli casserole had excellent wok hei (wok fragrance), giving it that deep, smoky flavor we love. The meatball with salted egg yolk was rich and savory, and the abalone was tender with clean, bright seasoning.
Every dish was well-prepared, and the overall meal felt comforting.

The most authentic Shanghainese cuisine—hands down. I couldn’t stop thinking about the flavors after trying their dishes. If it weren’t a bit far, I’d want to eat there every day. We ordered the seaweed fried fish, yan du xian (pork and bamboo shoot soup), black pepper beef, and grouper—everything was absolutely delicious! I’m a huge fan of this place!

"Oh crap" is what you'll be echoing for a week right after you eat here. Bc that'll be the one thing that shoots straight out of ur butt like a stream of water. My family and I got super sick (stomach virus + fever + chills + diarreah) after eating here. I guess they don't routinely throw out bad food or contaminated food so now the diner has to pay the price. Half of us are bedridden and I had to go to the doctor's TWICE.
Would NOT come back again. I'm suffering so much in pain bc I ate here.

Five stars for the amazing time I had with my Ad Gals. The service was great, quicker and friendlier than most places nearby ⭐️
My favorite dishes were the jellyfish and the eel 🤤 the marinade raw crab and the lightly fried fish filet are also good.
Not sure what the sign at front is about but better safe than sorry 🤔🤷🏻♀️🫶photos for your reference below.

Shanghai Short Ribs are not the ordinary Shanghai Short Ribs. The way they are made is a bit like the way to make sweet and sour pork. The meat, three-yellow chicken, pickled radish, and goose casserole soup maintain the standard. The sea cucumber tastes good but is a bit more cost-effective. The innovative method of making shrimp fried dough sticks and the fried buns are also good. I can only say that they are average. The vegetable rice is also delicious and does not have fat or fat in the usual vegetable rice. Overall, the food quality and service are consistent.
I came here again in February 2025. The food and service are still the same as before, but the waiting time for the food is longer. It took two and a half hours for a meal to be served and it can be said to be a shortcoming. Of course, every industry has its operating difficulties. This needs to be overcome by the management of Shanghai Tang. I hope it can be improved next time I go there.

Food was OK and the price is competitive with other shanghai restaurants in LA area. Extreme long wait list and poor service. Need to ask for water or drink or forks or knifes. Looks like they don't care about customers. Will not come again.

11/2/2024 - Had a banquet menu lunchoen at an elegant private room. Overall, each dish is delicious while the Pan-fried buns (生煎包) is average (2 or 3 stars) because the meats and taste is not good, or lacks umami (缺乏鲜味), although the appearance is very good.
This is either #1 Shanghai restaurant or one of the top 2 in the County of Los Angeles with an authentic Chinese Cuisine. On the other hand, exchanging a plate only took place once during a 12-course banquet period, which is below an upscale dining restaurant standard.

Great Shanghainese food. We like the rice cake combination with crab when the plain rice cake gets the flavors. The green colored seaweed fried fish is pleasing to both the palates and the eyes.
