This is my favorite place where I buy teas and I really love an atmosphere there
Helpful staff and helped me find what I was looking for
I read the others reviews before coming
(1) I was surprised by how fairly everything seemed priced. The tags scared me at first but they are /per pound price. For reference 4oz is WAY more than I thought. Imagine filling up a gallon ziploc bag.
(2) Someone came to help me very quickly, showed me the good stuff (freshly picked green tea), and did everything to make sure I felt comfortable before making a purchase. I’m not used to this communication style but was 100% satisfied with her help.
(3) I’m sorry to everyone who had a bad experience. I wasn’t asked to pay a minimum (to whoever said there was, would love more details). Hopefully if you come back you’ll have a more positive one like mine
They have the best teas in the world.
I'm not a tea guru/expert but was pretty disappointed by the loose leaf teas. This was my second time visiting. Just by the smell everything was oxidized or astringent (lower quality processing), yet the prices were very high. Even famously good tea variations I couldn't choose what I wanted because it was hard to justify paying 2-4x more than I was willing to for it. I took it that it would be because they have such a huge storefront that they would need to charge higher to compensate for their overhead. When I discussed with a good tea friend, he did agree that their teas were not of greatest quality, but it would be good to support a local business since not many of these exist in the U.S. I agree. No biggie.
But the associate helping me was terrible to work with. I was extremely relieved she wasn't good at upselling because it was easy to disconnect from the careless customer service. She was pissed at me when she spoke to me in Mandarin, I responded that I speak very poorly, and then over time when there were phrases I couldn't understand or express (I mean, we spoke for at least 10 mins), she huffed and puffed and then switched to limited English. In retrospect it was hilarious that I had the full intention to buy a lot of loose leaf teas, but walked away with a small Birdpick tin (it was cute!!). Despite going through at least 15 different teas in their display I felt rather distressed I couldn't choose even one, but this was a reflection of the poor service I was receiving.
Other stuff in the store are visually appealing but not within my range of consumption. I was interested in the herbs too, but it was well out of my range to purchase, and the associate behind the counter didn't seem interested in helping either.
I also wanted to buy a tea set/table, but it was similar to the teas where I couldn't decide for various reasons between design, price point, and setup (size, amount of cups, drainage, etc). No one helped me either, but I did feel glares as if looking at anything was going to burst into flames.
The first time a friend and I walked in, we didn't realize they were closing soon, and it was a really abrupt and rather harsh interaction. So if you aren't offended by rude customer service and you're fine with the prices, it's not a bad place to go.
We come here for the massive selection of teas. They never disappoint!
Went to buy Chinese herbs, they have almost everything you need and it is very fair priced. Highly recommend and will come back again
I often don't write reviews but the experience I had today left a very bad taste. I've been to Wing Hop Fung for many years, my mom use to take us when we were little when the store was still in chinatown.
From reading other's experiences, it seems that they profile their customers for potential shop lifting? Very rude older security guard shouted and stopped me while I was making my way into the store today saying I wasn't allowed in the store. So I asked why? And his response was that I had too many bags on the stroller I was pushing (my 2 yr old niece was napping in it)...uh come again? We're at a mall. People shop and have bags..like what? He rudely just said no bag...and just pointed to the front insinuating that I leave the bags up front..where he probably won't be paying attention to. Like dude, I'm here to buy tea. Anyway, I left and didn't buy anything. Had he been professional and asked me to place my bags in the front because of their "policy" I would've been like fine but it was the aggressive angry shout and pointing that was the line. Probably not ever coming back.
Note to store: Hire new security guard and PUT UP A SIGN if you have to about big bags or whatever and designate an area where you can at least check in your bags or something. Don't just yell at people.
A hypermarket of Chinese goods with many items...
They don’t allow “big bags” in the store. My mom had purchased a backpack for a good chunk of money (about $150) and the sales associate had put it in a large bag. I walked in to Wing Hop Fung with my mom since she needed to purchase something and was told the plastic bag holding my item is too big and want me to leave it in a cart by the front entrance for this old man to not guard. First time this place had left a bad taste in my mouth. I immediately walked out after because I did not want to leave my mom’s “big plastic bag” by the door and gave it potentially get stolen.

The service is good, the items are rich and varied, and the quality is good.
Great place to get amazing tea.
Great selection of tea!
I am a fan of Wing Hop Fung. I come to this store every time when I'm in Los Angeles for the herbs ingredients, and teas they have in the store. I trusted their reputation. They are excellent in quality and customer service.I also like to check out the teapots and the Feng Shui decorations they have on the sales floor. I really enjoyed my visit to Wing Hop Fung every time.
Interesting market with lots of herbs and teas.
