I was really looking forward to the simple pleasures of a regular bean, rice, and cheese burrito. The tin foil even had “BRC” written on it. When I I bit into it, I found they had made it a super asada burrito. Unfortunately, this is the 3rd time this year they have gotten my order completely wrong, so I won’t be recommending this establishment. Would have loved to give 5-stars but it’s too disappointing.

I’ve been coming to Esteban’s for years, since well before they moved to their new location across the street and it has always been fire. This last time we went it was sadly a very disappointing experience. The service was good, I ordered a super burrito with carnitas and though it was big and looked good it was just so bland. I asked for mild salsa but there wasn’t any salsa in the burrito and the meat just tasted like meat with no seasoning. My lunch companion ordered a bell pepper quesadilla, which also initially looked good until she looked inside to see that there was almost no cheese *see photo* in it so everything inside just kept falling out if it. She didn’t even finish half of it before giving up. I feel bad because I had raved about this place for awhile to convince her to go to lunch there and after our experience I highly doubt we’ll go back. I think this type of inconsistency is what happens to most businesses that change ownership. I’ve noticed over the years that whenever a new owner/s takes over and starts making changes it never ends up being a good thing. I might go one more time just to make sure this wasn’t a one off and will update my review if necessary.

We arrived just after opening and were the only customers at the time. We had to seek assistance and ask if we could have a table. They do not offer chips and salsa while waiting for your food. I ordered the Chili verde and half of my meat portion ended up to be all fat chunks. I pointed this out to our waiter when he brought out the other meal. He said “let me see if I can get you more meat”. I asked if he wanted to take my plate, he did and when he returned I had just pieces of shredded carnitas on top of the verde sauce! Service was not great, the waiter never came back to our table until he brought our bill. When looking at the bill the amount charged for our meal did not match the prices of the meals we ordered. To say the least I would not recommend this place and unfortunately I will not be returning.
Esteban’s has the best burritos I have ever had! I would recommend as a must try for anyone who happens to be in Arcata. The huevos rancheros breakfast burrito and the chilereano super burrito are amazing. The ingredients and handmade tortillas are fresh and generous.

Usually it’s really good but since they’ve moved to the new spot it’s gone down. Our last visit my burrito was cold my daughters enchilada beef had ZERO flavor and the dude taking orders always seems inconvenienced. Sadly I think I’ll go elsewhere for awhile. Bummer

The food here, namely the burritos, is seriously delicious. Fresh tortillas and well seasoned meat, and just the right level of spice! Easily the best burrito I've had this far north.
The service is fast, albeit a bit unfriendly (it doesn't bother me, I've always thought the whole forced enthusiasm thing was weird). I never have to wait very long after ordering, and the food is fairly priced. I find myself returning here frequently for lunch because the portion size relative to the price is hard to beat.
