We went for a birthday dinner and the sushi was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented.
It is a small space, so limited and close seating, reservations are a must, but easy to make online.
Prices are comparable to most nicer restaurants in Humboldt.
Everything was so good, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be going there again! Best sushi in Humboldt IMO!

This is the best food in Humboldt County. A hole in the wall, owner operated, And an incredible atmosphere. The owner rolled our sushi and put up with our banter. The food and flavors were unique and the best I’ve had in the area. I will definitely be back. Yummy

We’ve eaten at Tanuki’s Den twice and both times have agreed it’s the best sushi we’ve ever eaten. Jacob has a way of putting flavors together to create a unique and amazing roll. Every bite is so delicious and leaves you wanting more! I highly recommend Tanuki’s Den!

Omakase menu was very delicious. Friendly and attentive staff! Ran a little late so we had to hustle out before the next seating, but plenty of outdoor space to finish our drinks and dessert. Would recommend the 7:30 omakase seating.

So grateful for a new restaurant in town that is food made with love and high quality ingredients. I’ve eaten here three times and each time has been so satisfying. I’m not even usually a huge sushi fan but there’s so much flavor and complexity to these dishes.
Also they have great customer service- servers seem happy to serve- which oddly is hard to find in these parts some times.

Wow what a unique flavor of rolls! I always enjoy getting out of my comfort zone with food and this place delivered. Apple with cucumber and shrimp in sushi? Don’t knock it until you try it! Everything was absolutely delicious, 10/10 recommend

The menu is interesting. But too much tuna( as a Japanese sushi restaurant, I surprise there is not much salmon choice). And extremely expensive!!! Food is not that great! You can taste sashimi defrosted from frozen.
They ask 20%, 30%, 40% tips!!! Don't you think it's ridiculous??!! And their service is not that great even worth 20%. The chelf is Arrogant.
This sashimi bowl is $30. I lived in Japan 6 years, sashimi never comes with rice. I felt they just don't have enough sashimi to make that price, then add rice.
I know most people had 5 star reviews, that's probably when the restaurant started, it was better. But I have to say, I was very disappointed. I hope you think about it before chosing to go there..

Quirky little dining room with some really unique touches (we liked the coat rack and artwork). Love there’s an outdoor area for warmer weather. Definitely the best sushi we have experienced in HumCo by far. Service was friendly although a bit flustered and slow. Pricey menu and worthwhile!
