La Tavolata is an excellent little Italian restaurant hidden in a dense shopping and food plaza. I've had the pleasure of dining here a few times and had delicious experiences each time. The menu boasts many classic Italian dishes and a good wine and beer selection.
On recent visits, we made reservations and were seated promptly. Service began with complimentary bread, and we ordered drinks, such as their Pinot Grigio or Peroni beer, while we decided on our dinner.
A few of my favorite dishes are the Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare, Ravioli alla Bolognese, and Spaghetti alla Bolognese. The calamari and spinaci (spinach) were great to share. For dessert, we enjoyed the homemade tiramisu.
The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy. I highly recommend this place and hope to dine here again soon.
Parking: The parking can be a challenge during peak dining times.

Ate here for a birthday, not the first time dining in this restaurant. I'm Italian, love Italian food. La Tavolata is one of my favorites I've had in SoCal so far. Reasonable post-pandemic inflation prices, delicious food, comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend trying out at least once!
Nota Bene: Call ahead of time to make a reservation so you don't have to wait. The place is small (which I like - makes it more personal) and not your usual big named restaurant in the area. That being said, here's the review:
One of South Street's best kept secrets, La Tavolata offers a delightful escape from the bustling Asian food scene in the area. This cozy, intimate space transports diners to a quaint Italian trattoria, where the focus is on simple, delicious food.
While parking can be a bit of a challenge, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, coupled with attentive service, makes it well worth the effort. The staff is knowledgeable and eager to guide you through the menu, offering expert recommendations.
The real star of the show is the food. The pasta is made fresh in-house, ensuring a truly authentic Italian dining experience. The generous portions and high-quality ingredients make every bite a pleasure. The wine list complements the dishes perfectly, offering a variety of options to suit every palate.
If you're seeking a satisfying Italian meal at a reasonable price, La Tavolata is the place to be. It's a hidden gem that's sure to impress.

We came because we were craving Italian food and we loved it here! The food is amazing and reasonably priced; the salad was fresh, the pasta was home made, perfectly al dente, and very flavorful, and their tiramisu was fairly good as well though the highlight is definitely the pasta. The restaurant is cute but pretty packed and I’d definitely recommend making a reservation.

They food was good. However I called and order a dish with no meat. Clarified no meat and the receipt said it as well.
We picked it up and finally got home to find meat in the dish for the two of six of us. So two of us went hungry without anything to eat. When I called they offered to refund the one dish they messed up or asked me to come pick it up. I wasn't about to go a second time at 8:00 pm on a Sunday night. And though they refunded my one dish it doesn't make up for the ruined night. I am not from the area and was taking food over to my sick friend who now had no dinner and we were screwed at 8pm when I had to leave to get home an hour away. I don't think their version of "compensation" was appropriate or fair!
Five stars across the board. The food came pretty quickly and was delicious. My soda also came fairly quick. The service was great and our server was very friendly. Atmosphere was perfect. The issue was my cup was a little dirty. Either way it was a five star experience

The food is always great, take out service has been poor in the past. This time was a pleasant surprise. The food was promised in 30 min and it was ready when I went to collect it 34 min later. Very pleased, hope that’s my experience next time too.

Ok, this was my favorite Italian restaurant 4 years I've received great service. Unfortunately the last two times wasn't a good experience. This experience was way way to unprofessional and it had me feeling I had done something wrong. Here we go I order to go I order 2 spaghetti, Lasagna and extra bread. the spaghetti was dried out hard meat stale taste and The Lasagna was soggy stale taste as well. To top that off I called and ask the Manager for a refund he was so so so disrespectful cutting me of while I was speaking then he said, I don't want to hear that and he said I've been working all day I'm hot and I'm tired I just don't want to deal with this. concluding with bring it back I give you your just money back and hung up the phone. I will never go back there. To whoever wants to dine in hear please don't go close to closing time you just might get the bad service I did.
The restaurant is so unfortunate.

Pretty good if you’re craving pasta and are in the area (or want something semi- halfway between OC and LA… kinda). We got 4 dishes for 3 of us, no wine this time! 4 dishes was too much. They give really good bread (free). Everything was pretty good, but nothing I’d go out of my way for.
Wine bottles are $25-40! Something like that. Pretty good if you’re looking to enjoy with your pastas. This reminds me little Italy in Boston, which I haven’t been to after moving out of that area—-very small restaurant feel!
I WOULD come back, if close by. Long wait since small restaurant (we waited an hour at 8pm, so sat closer to 9pm)

I was not expecting this, italian food from not so italian people, but my god was the food delicious! Everything was fantastic, small intimate vibe, you can see the flames from the food they are cooking from any seat inside the restaurant. I walked out of there wanting to go back already! 5/5 all day!
