The menu was about two-thirds blacked out, so there weren’t many options available to pick from. I ordered the Lion King baked roll and an order of salmon nigiri. Unfortunately, the salmon nigiri was slimy and did not taste fresh at all, and the pieces were very small (about 1.5 inches or less).
The Lion King roll itself was also very small, about the size of a quarter. I was hesitant to eat it since the salmon in the nigiri didn’t seem fresh, and after trying one piece, I couldn’t get past the unpleasant taste. Overall, it wasn’t a great experience.

Recently went to the restaurant with my family for lunch and was practically turned away while there were available tables open to sit at. We were told there was a wait because there we no tables available when clearly there were tables open. I pointed that out to the nice lady upfront who was very polite to my family and I, she checked with someone in the back if we could sit down at one of the open tables or push together two small tables for the 4 of us and she was told that that could not be done and we had to wait. I told them we would rather leave if they won’t allow us to sit down because there is no where to physically sit in this establishment if you have to wait for a table. The whole established just seems unorganized to begin with, it always has since they opened. It’s the only sushi restaurant in Atwater. The service is always terrible and the sushi is good enough for return service but nothing about this place makes me want to be a return customer unless I’m absolutely craving sushi and I’m willing to put up with rude and unaccommodating staff. They have the potential to be good but time and time again they miss the mark completely with their staff and cleanliness.

Apparently they randomly close for their lunch. Showed up at 2:45pm and the door was locked with a sign, closed for lunch 3pm to 4pm. First time here and won't be back.

Sushi is very mid. Hard rice. It’s worth driving to Merced for better quality. I always try to give them another chance just to end up disappointed. SMH I think they switched owners because there were better before.

Staff refusing to answer phones due to laziness, what a way to artificially create a dead restaurant for lazy workers.

I recently had a highly disappointing experience at Atwater sushi, a sushi restaurant that has unfortunately deteriorated over time. Once a go-to spot for fresh and delicious sushi, it has now become a place I would advise everyone to avoid.

To start with, the sushi did not taste fresh at all. The fish had a questionable texture and flavor, leaving me concerned about its quality and safety. For a cuisine that relies heavily on freshness, this is simply unacceptable.

Additionally, the service was atrocious. The hostess was incredibly rude and seemed annoyed by basic questions and requests. This lack of professionalism made the dining experience even more unpleasant.

To add insult to injury, they tried to charge me extra for wasabi. When I received my takeout order, I found just a small smear of wasabi in the corner of the box, far from what I would expect. This level of stinginess is disappointing and felt like a blatant attempt to nickel and dime customers.

It's sad to see how much this restaurant has declined. It used to be a favorite of mine, but given the current state of their food and service, I won't be returning. If you're looking for good sushi, do yourself a favor and find another place. This one is not worth your time or money anymore.
