First Black Bear experience was the Gridley CA restaurant in '94. It was awesome the first time, and I haven't been disappointed since. Sadly, Covid closed the Gridley eatery but I have visited the Redding, Salinas, Vallejo, Chico, Bend Or. and many more and will continue to seek them out. Delicious food, large servings and a great variety of choices. Can't go wrong eating at Black Bear!!

Server Josh was very unprofessional and tried to flirt with me both times I came in!! ? made infantilizing comments to me like “eat your vegetables” and “you thought I wouldn’t notice you not finishing your food” Do not come here if you want to enjoy a peaceful dinner!! This man made me uncomfortable

Stoped here on my way through, Jena was my server, she was incredible! She very knowledgeable and attentive to my gluten free needs. She took special care communicating with the kitchen to make sure there was no cross contamination. Highly recommend asking for Jena when visiting Black Bear in Auburn. 10 STARS for Jena!!! She was also a lot of fun to talk to! She introduced me to her coworker Samatha who I absolutely adored!! She was funny and kind! I highly recommended stoping here for lunch and a great time!!!

We waited almost thirty minutes for our drinks, when we finally got them they tasted horrible and as if none of them were mixed right. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food and our waitress Diahann grabbed a handful of strawberries with no gloves and put them on our pancakes. Our pancakes were still raw in the inside with a piece of warm lettuce on the side as a garnish, potatoes had no flavor and some were cold. The waitress didn’t refill our coffee until we were basically done eating. There were no gloves used at all. HORRIBLE experience.
