Very friendly, very clean, but the food is underwhelming. I work in the building, and would really like this place to succeed. But they can't even get pasta salad right: the pasta was way overcooked and mushy (or maybe it was just old), either way, it was inedible. Had to throw it out.

Honestly, this place is fine. I see the bad reviews and I understand where they're coming from, but I know this business isn't easy. From my personal experience(i didn't come until a few months after they first opened), the hosts have been friendly and my orders have always been correct. They did a great job with the remodel and the space is always clean. They have tons of condiments available to grab and there's a bunch of drink options too. Their fridges usually have a few grab-and-go salads and sandwiches available for those in a rush and the salads seem really big. The menu isn't as varied as the previous place that was here but the options are fine. Now the food, I don't know if they're just heath-conscious and trying to keep the sodium levels low or something but most food lacks salt. While some people may see this as a huge problem, I just grab salt and pepper packets from the condiments section and the food is better. No biggie. The food is cooked fresh and I really like their breakfast skillet order. I don't mind coming here when in a pinch. It's real close and good enough to eat when i don't want to drive somewhere. Oh, they also have a great variety of candy bars available but no donuts (bummer) or granola bars. They do, however have oatmeal and bagels. It's a give-and-take I guess. I'm not saying run here, but it's not horrible either. 3/5.

1:45 in the afternoon winds are blowing and its chilly. I called the restuarant to order a grilled half sandwich and a cup of chili. I was told sorry sir we have no grill items now because we are shutting every thing down to close. When did your stop serving hot food, I ask. I'm told at 1:30 p.m. we close at 4 on Fridays. I explain, it's posted you close at 5. He tells me he will bring it up to the owner . I ask him what can I get that is hot, over an hour before they close. He tells me I can have soup, chili, or chili fries. This restaurant had a bad start. I thought they were turning it around. I am very unhappy to go to a restaurant and be told I can't order what they offer on the menu. Not just one item. An entire selection. No burgers, no panini, only cold sandwhiches.

Thankfully, my training class was here in the county building b/c I was able to eat lunch here. I ordered the ranch chicken wrap (only &5). Omg, absolutely delicious!! It was packed with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and ranch! So so good! I wish it was closer to my work and where I live! I'll be back!

Update, Can Yelp please allow negative star now. Anywho yesterday I found where they put all their salt/seasoning...Its all on their super salty chicken strips!! Today I walked down got a Frito boat which a co-worker and I typically order at least once a week. I asked Samantha my cashier to put them on the side and she immediately starts looking for the button to charge for extra Jalapeí±os. She asks the younger male cook if they charge for Jalapeí±os. I responded with It comes with jalapeí±os I just don't want them on the top. She said well I didn't know it came with Jalapeí±os. So she doesn't charge me but walks over to the person making the Frito boat and states we need to start charging for the Jalapeí±os... (As if they aren't completely overpriced for the garbage they are putting out already.) Her whole demeanor was unwelcoming and kind of bitter as I walked up to the register so I should have known there would be an issue. Side note, I noticed on another review they said the cook came out smiling and asking how the food was, Question are you sure you were at the right café? This guy is always grumpy looking and kind of talks under his breath when he's answering his cashiers....I work in this building and see him almost daily. After these last two trips I am completely done with this place.

Showed up at 12:10 today, Monday, and there was 3 people in line ordering and about 10 people sitting at tables. Wait to order was about 2 minutes and order was on my table within minutes!! My burger meal with drink was just over $8.00 and my coworker got 2 salads and a side of grilled chicken and it was just over $15.00. Not bad at all!! The Salads are HUGE and the grilled chicken is so yummy!! The BBQ Burger was great and the atmosphere is always inviting. Plus if you work for the County of Kern, you get a 20% discount!! I will definitely be returning as I work right around the corner!! Thanks for a great lunch.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. bland food and way over priced. I am really disappointed. The garden spot was way better than this new place

The people are very friendly, so I'd like to offer some advice if they want to turn it around: 1. Expand the menu. The choices are very limited. Maybe a 2-egg breakfast, with a side of sausage/bacon/ham l, hash brown and toast? The garden spot used to sell a lot of those. Add a chicken salad sandwich, or something that is different from what I can just bring from home. 2. Cut down the pre-made stuff, make more food fresh. Hours old breakfast burritos aren't attracting anyone. If we try to order a fresh one, staff directs us to the heatlamp. 3. Instead of cooking bits of ham or sausage into the egg, how about a whole slice of ham or sausage patty? 4. You might be overdoing it with the potatoes in everything. Some coworkers have complained about the seasoning tasting a bit weird. The staff are great and the place looks nice. I don't even think the prices are so bad. The food is the problem. .

‍ so bummed this place replaced the garden spot. laughable prices for small portions of beyond basic food. total facepalm. half the quality and portion of those gas station sandwiches but double the price. i predict this place will be gone in three months or less.

Cafe 1933: Pros: friendly and professional service. Cons: refer to the following narrative: My mother taught me to never judge a book by its cover. When i first walked into cafe 1933, I was astonished by the remodel they had done. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and immaculate. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for their food. I have never compared food to the taste of cardboard before, but I feel there is nothing else that better exemplifies the lack of any resemblance of flavor. I have been here multiple times and have left contemplating why I even decided to give this place a second chance, let alone a 3rd chance. I had their breakfast burrito which was outrageously bland. I'd rather have a burrito from Taco Bell; they at the very least have knowledge that food should have some kind of flavor. Oh, and I could get a breakfast burrito from Taco Bell for a fraction of the price. Cafe 1933 is EXPENSIVE! The next item I had was their oatmeal. And could you guess? It was completely bland and flavorless as well! The best part about the oatmeal was that it cost 5 dollars. 5 dollars for oatmeal! I could buy a 12 pack of quakers instant oatmeal from Walmart for the same price and be completely satisfied 12 times over! Lastly, I had their BBQ cheeseburger. This was by far the most disappointing and utterly depressing cheeseburger I have ever had. I literally watched them place the patty with cheese in the microwave and nuke it for 30 seconds. In addition to this, they placed a dime sized portion of BBQ sauce on my burger. I have never had a BBQ burger that wasn't drenched in BBQ sauce. Don't call your burger a "BBQ burger" if you're only going to put a teaspoon of it in it. The best part about this order was that it cost $8.50. Mind you, this does not include a drink or fries. I was willing to buy fries to add them to my meal, but the business told me that they didn't carry French fries! What kind of business sells burgers but doesn't sell fries as an option?! I would've been able to purchase an amazing combo from Carl's JR that included a burger, fries, and a drink for the same price! Cafe 1933 must overhaul their menu as well as their prices. Their prices are outrageously ridiculous! 5 dollars for oatmeal? Come on man. At the very least, add some salt to your food. Furthermore, do not sell burgers if you don't have French fries. There is nothing more sinful to the food gods than this.

I have tried several times to enjoy Cafe 1933. The first thing I bought was a breakfast burrito....it was VERY bland and I threw half of it away. Next, I did a grab and go sandwich (this was in their first week of being opened) and the bread was stale and the sandwich tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. Given the convenience of the location, I tried again. I ordered the "old fashioned" oatmeal, they gave me a cup that was a third full with white water and some oats at the bottom, they gave me a small container of brown sugar that was so hard I couldn't break it up. My last straw was when I grabbed a salad and when I got back to my office and opened it, it was obvious that the salad was several days old. The avocado was brown and the lettuce was wilted and watery. I'm done with this cafe.

So I have been to this place before, it was okay, cheap and a cafeteria I guess you get what you pay for cant complain! Didnt know it reopen the remodel is absolutely stunning, a bit pricey but fresh fast and nice place to dine in. The cook even came out and asked how the food was, I would deff come again! I know they are working out the kinks I'm sure next time it will be even better.

I had the breakfast burrito which was good, the prices were normal..service was good.I normally save 5 stars for great but it appears some people want to tear a business apart when its still trying to work out its opening stages.

Had a short window to stop and grab lunch. I got a sandwich and it was great. Cafe 1933 was fast and the employees were so friendly! Definitely will come here again.
