I live on the east side of Bakersfield. Athenas is on the west side. It’s not in an area I normally frequent. I found it and it look like a little hole in the wall restaurant, but I had a meeting about 45 minutes after I found it, and I was starved. When the food reached my table, I was amazed at how fantastically tasty it was. I use the past tense because the food did not live long on my plate.Anyone who is interested more in the food that in the location, will not be disappointed with Athena’s.The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because of the location.

There is no dishonesty here, 1star is my opinion on how I felt I was treated when I was there and I wouldn't recommend anyone being a customer of yours (dine in or pick up) . I don't want to argue with you about it. Do you remember? So why even argue about. Guess I don't have the right to express my opinion on my experience

This is the best lamb I've had in Bakersfield, and the service was great too

I saw a man walk out of the restroom then I went to go to the restroom and was told the restroom was "currently closed".

First time eating here. I had the chicken pita with rice and salad. Really good tasting chicken. Had a little spice but not bad. Would order again. Wife had the Greek meatball pita with lemon potatoes and salad. She loved the pita, flavorful meatballs. She wasn't so thrilled with the potatoes but I really liked them so I ate more than she did. Nothing special concerning the salad. We will definitely be back.

New for us, but they have been in this location 10 years. Food is AMAZING!! The beef pita, pork chops and Greek burger are amazing come with pilaf & salad as sides. Yum!!

We showed up a little late, 30 minutes from closing, sorry! We would have otherwise been sitting at home until they were closed trying to decide! The first time I was here was in 2017, and I was blown away by how good the food was! I was stoked that it was a mom & pop restaurant which I grew up in and appreciate to the core, but more than anything the food was just absolutely delicious. I can say with 100% honestly that if anything they've gotten better. So many restaurants degrade over time (because it's hard!) to the point of not wanting to visit because the golden days are over, they lost their main cooks, switched owners, etc, etc... It sucks, but this place is 100% legit! When you order, you're talking to the folks that refined the recipes. Nothing else screams home style more than someone hanging over the counter telling you about the flavors you're about to experience. My girlfriend loved Athena's Steak Pita, and I loved the Chicago Gyro. We shared and absolutely agreed. The Greek Feta Fries are delicious, and the owner shot us an amazing savory garlicky sauce for us to try with the fries and it somehow took the fries to the next level! Forgot to add we also got the Spinakopita and it was AMAZING. We then ordered their cherry yogurt pie, which they make every now and then, and gave specific instructions on how to most enjoy it, which we did and did not follow, because we both couldn't wait and also wanted to wait for My mom loved the Baklava, and I apparently should have ordered two so I could try it as well! Haha I don't think I could give a better review; I love this place! You literally can't go wrong here

Given we only had the gyro fries and the lemon potatoes. Yet, that alone was plenty enough to feed two adults and a baby. The setup and decorations created a true Greek atmosphere. I was very happy about all the dishes and photos because it have me an experience instead of just the food. All be it the small area for eating, they utilized the space well.Food was delicious! The meat was perfectly flavored and thinly sliced. The cheese tasted fresh and homemade! Even the fries had a unique and pleasant texture that I'll be craving for the next month. The lemon potatoes have a powerful lemon flavor and the oregano adds a little bit of sweetness. With such strong flavors we needed to mix our potatoes with rice to settle it down a little bit. Still absolutely delicious. We will be eating there again, planning to get a meal instead of just the sides.

So my eating habits have changed slightly in the intervening 8 years we've been coming here and I came here to say it's still amazing and I still love the restaurant. I had an Athenian salad with gyro meat and it was fantastic. My other half still gets the Chicago gyro and the lemon potatoes are still quite tasty as well. My kids love the desserts. A good deal and quick take out!

Very unimpressed! After seeing the 4 star rating and many positive reviews, I decided to try this place out and ordered a chicken pita with potatoes & salad. The "salad" was LITERALLY only lettuce chopped up and a few cucumber slices :O I can create this mix of lettuce and cucumbers at home in 3 minutes... The potatoes were ordinary baked potatoes with butter and lemon... again, can make this at home with little effort. The chicken pita was only grilled chicken breast with tomatoes and white sauce in pita bread; and, the chicken itself was very chewy and dry. The whole time I was eating my meal I kept nodding my head in disappointment, thinking how unappealing this is and how I should have gone to my usual spots in town for a similar (but way better) meal; but then again, it's good that I tried this place out and got to know for myself. And how could they possibly charge so much money for this? It is shocking. If the food cost half the price (as it rightfully should), then I would add 1 more star.

Today was my 2nd time coming and they have the best food. Love coming here when I’m around the area it’s my go to. The service is excellent and the food is fresh & delicious! 10/10 coming back again and again

First time here and we were disappointed. Salad is fresh, Greek potatoes have good flavor, gyro doesn’t have much flavor, spinach pie is good, baklava is good, my husband had a sandwich with beef chunks and it was terrible…

A small spot but every time I order everything is on point. I personally do pick up orders but every time I arrive the owner recognizes me and calls me by name, which is a really classy touch. My Favorites are the Greek style Grilled Chicken Breast and the Pork Chops. The Lemon Potatoes and the Rice are amazing sides. One great thing to ask for is the Green Salsa. It's not super hot, but it has enough spice and is super flavorful. Of course they have deserts and I always order from the case when I am picking up, but the Carrot Cake is amazing. Good finding this place in the Bakersfield area, that's for sure.

Absolutely love the food here. They make a great Gyro plate. Only downside for me is that they are clear across town. Wish they would have a store over in the southwest somewhere near Panama and Gosford area
