I don’t get here as often as I would like to but I’m always satisfied with the food & service when I do.

Adore this place! I’ve been coming here since 2016 when I went to the community college up the street. It’s a great local place where the ingredients always taste fresh and the bread is always amazing.
When friends visit from out of town I make sure to bring them here and watch them get blown away but this small little sandwich shop.

Spend 14 bucks on a sandwich and small bag of chips but DAMN. These sandwiches are so juicy and the bread is so soft, quality is there for sure, and they use cabbage in their sandwiches which is refreshing

The sandwiches are amazing.
A Bakersfield staple! Excellent sandwiches with amazingly tasty and zingy oil and vinegar dressing.
We had the #1, #3 and #9 sandwiches with a side of potato salad.
Still tastes the same throughout the decades, even through management changes
Not worth the price at all!!! We will never be back here
I first had a sandwich here in 1981. So happy it will remain open. I always get the #1.

The new owners of The Original City Sandwich Company are not as customer-forward as they claim; since they reopened, not one order we've made has been correct - this time, a pickled beef was ordered with "no juice" and came to me as a slimy mess, soaking through butcher paper. When I called to ask what happened and get a refund, I was gaslit and called a liar! "I don't believe oil and vinegar were added to your sandwich." Then what is all this oil and vinegar doing here?
This was after trying to deli-splain what "pickling" is. Yes, we know it comes with some vinegar -- that was neither the question nor the problem, but the person I spoke to kept trying to talk over me, while not listening.
I told the rude lady I would come smear the greasy thing on her countertops, and she wasn't thrilled at that idea. Probably because she doesn't want excess oil and vinegar in specific places, which I totally understand (that's why I ordered it that way).
I took a bite, and it immediately turned my stomach from all of the oil that "wasn't added to it"
Also my husband's sandwich had the opposite problem; his requested extra sauce, (the chicken bacon ranch has been dry since the change) and came with none. We assumed an innocent mix-up, and the rude lady just assumed we had no idea how sandwiches worked. We didn't even get to discuss that sandwich, but I wasn't looking forward to a condescending lecture over how ranch is made anyways.
Kind of a bummer, they were a semi-regular treat before, but the changes in the last few months haven't been for the better. We always have Caesar's (whose pickled tongue is a delight, and you can actually hold the sandwich without getting covered in oil!)

The best sub I’ve ever had! Love that this is family owned and that they are bringing back a taste of nostalgia to our hometown! Thank you all for all of the yummyness! I can’t wait to have another one on my next visit home!
You’ll love this family run business brought back to life by the Tom and Kelly Edwards family!
I used to love getting salads from this place because they were big and worth the money but now I tried to get the same salad and it was less than half of what it used to be and still the same price . Do not get the chef salad or garden salad not worth the money can't speak on the deli meats they smelled
