Second time having lunch from here. Second time I had a shrimp burrito. It was real tasty. I asked for the chipotle sauce to be on the side since most of the time I dislike other place’s chipotle sauce, but theirs was real tasty. I might have to try it again with lite chipotle sauce. My order came with fries and I had also ordered a piece of their corn bread. Their corn bread was warm and tasty as well.

Intended on eating at the Black Bear in the same center. Long wait there so we walked over to Coconut Joes.
Fast service, good fish and chips.
Interior was a bit garish with the lighting.
If we pass through Bakersfield, we will try them again.
December 2025.
Ate here again, everything still good. Will return again.

The last time I ate here was 11 years ago, prior to that we frequented this location. The food is still flavorful, and I was not disappointed in the least, however, my son and I did find that we had to order 3 big plates in order to get full (we each weigh 200 lb). The service was top notch, and the ambiance is over the top wonderful (as always).

We had the tri-tip, bbq chicken, and then split a large plate of fish & chips. The fish was about half of what you would get at lengthwise for a similar price, but very delicious. The tri-tip was as good as I remember and waaaaaaaaay more flavorful than Harris BBQ (on Buena Vista). The bbq chicken was delicious, but the drumstick was the size of my index finger, so small compared with 11 years ago, but all chicken seems to be getting smaller and smaller at all restaurants.

Overall, we are happy with the results, and it’s nice to see that a restaurant that weathered COVID and all the price hikes is still making quality food. (We only took off one star for portion size as at $66 for lunch, there are many places that will fill us up…such as Lengthwise).

Coconut Joe's is a BBQ restaurant with a beach vibe in the middle of Bakersfield, CA. The Salmon Sandwich will satisfy your hunger, grilled to perfection. Quite a few side choices.

4.5/5 for the salmon sandwich, lobster roll, and big plate with chicken and pit beef. For the price and taste this place is unbeatable. Super friendly staff as well.

Great food. Very nasty tartar sauce. I would like a basic tartar sauce. Please no dill. Their fried fish is so good but I never eat here because of the tartar sauce
