Spectacular meal. Everything was spiced perfectly just the way we ordered. The price was very fair. I used to think Fresno had the best tasting Indian cuisine, but tonight showed me that Bakersfield indeed has stepped up a notch with Royal Taj. Will return soon.

Tea served in paper cups. Asked twice for water and still none. Place was empty for lunch, warning sign. Only had one menu available for a party of four. No buffet anymore. Interior is a joke. Very ghetto inside. Ceiling vents haven been cleaned since 1972.First 2 peoples dish came out then the other 2 came out 30 min later. And the order still didn't all make it here. This place is an absolute joke.Server never came back after leaving the plates.Never getting dragged here again I hope!

Ate dinner here with my family. Food was very tasty! My 6-year-old sister ate 2 plates of food so that says something! The decorations are beautiful and the staff are very friendly and constantly checked in on us. This place deserves much more customers! I will be returning soon :)

I absolutely love Indian food and Taj serves good food. The service was great and fast. It was shockingly empty for a Saturday night for dinner.

I have to say how disappointed I was with my experience here. I was so excited to try this place out because of all the positive reviews. That being said we went on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 pm so plenty of time for the buffet sadly they didn’t have much food and most of it was very dry and had no flavor . The customer service was horrible they weren’t rude they just didn’t show and interest we felt like we were and inconvenience all while the restaurant was empty besides on other table. I won’t be coming back I would recommend New Taj Palace on Ming they’re food is better but same issue with service.

We were literally the only people in the joint and had horrible service. We had to prompt the dude to take our appetizer order and our drink order. Then he tried to bounce with our menus before we ordered entrees. No table visits or refills, It was kind of weird. Then his buddy showed up and they we so deep in conversation that he ignored the dozen or so subtle glances to let him know we needed the check. We finally all got up and I had to walk to the bar to get our check. The food was actually really good, it sucks that it is fronted subpar staff. Won't go back soon, there are other good Indian spots near by.

The lunch buffet has gone down hill. Save your money. It use to be good but it made me feel sick. The vegetables were full of cream and everything looked like it had been sitting there for a long time. It had not much flavor and tasted GROSS!!!! The meat dish was tough and I couldn't tell if it was chicken or pork even though it said it was chicken. The goat meat was a bowl of bones and had almost no meat. They even ditched the samosas and put tiny Indian snacks in their place. Was it dried beans or paper in the middle???? They didn't include nan bread with the $12 disgusting lunch. Never going back!!!

Worst place for food. We stopped here while going to LA and tasted everything in buffet and nothing was worth consuming. The Rice were dry, the Raita were smelly due to old ingredients. The Kheer was yucky. Curries were disappointing too. The worst was the lady serving, so much of attitude. We had 2 kids 2 and a 4 year old. The 2 year old did not eat anything and she said she will charge for just one kid and once we were done she charged for 2 and refused to make correction. Never going to come back and recommend anything

This place is not good anymore. I don't know what's going on. All the food I had here today lacked flavor or did not taste like it traditionally would. It appears that they might be going through a name change or new ownership, maybe that's why it's changed drastically. For starters the lunch buffet is very bland and now you have to pay extra for Naan. The chicken curry does not even taste like it has any curry powder in it at all. The sauce taste like tomato and onion with no seasoning. The chicken itself almost taste watery, as If it was boiled before being put into the curry. The garlic naan is basic, I would compare it to the frozen naan you can buy at a grocery store. After being disappointed with the buffet food I decided to order some butter chicken. Again I was very disappointed by the lack of flavor. It looked like butter chicken but it did not taste like butter chicken at all. It lacked seasoning and it was way to sweet. Tasted like it could be an Ice cream base. We ate our meal super upset paid and just left. The service was not good either. The woman who helped us had an attitude and made us feel uncomfortable. That is the main reason we felt that we could not speak up about the quality and taste of the food. We paid $50 plus tip for food we did not like at all. I understand that the current economy has caused business to up charge, but they should not cut corners and the quality that consumers receive should still be satisfactory. Consumers are also suffering. When we eat out it's become a luxury and should be able to at the very least enjoy our meals. They need to fix these issues. I will probably never be back.

When my boyfriend and I decided to try this place we were in love. Ate it three times in a week and a half. Few weeks ago, I ordered butter chicken and it was oily, brown, and congealed. Like there was zero tomato in the whole dish. Called to replace and they did. We thought ok no issue with one bad time. Then again today I ordered butter chicken once more with the same gross texture and taste and when I called to replace they sounded unhappy but willing. Ok no problem. The issue comes from the fact that they tried to treat me like I was uninformed about how the dish is meant to be and that this dish can come in two colors. I’m not sure how that’s the case when as far as I know it’s orange from the tomato purée. I was told the oily layer on top is because they use butter to make it so it’s just that way. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to eat separated oil and whatever else. It’s meant to be mixed into a creamy texture.I took the replacement because I wanted to just leave but it was almost just as bad as the original and tastes like nothing but oil.Any pictures you see online for this dish it’s a creamy orange color. I’ve attached a picture to show what I received. We will not be eating here again.

This rating was hard to do.... Here's why? The food was yummy when we finally got it... over 1.5 hr wait and we ordered Naan received No Naan which was one of the main reasons we came.. full bar with no bartender, which isn't a deal breaker... however can't help but be hopeful for the place... it's under new owners who are trying to learn as they go...

We had a wonderful dinner! We ordered chicken jalfrezi, aloo benjan, pratha, garlic Naan, basmati rice, and raita. All was delicious. I particularly liked the aloo benjan (eggplant and potato), while my husband was delighted with the chicken. The raita was delicately spiced with cumin and cilantro, a nice, cooling dish. Everything was good. We wish lived in the area so we could come back regularly, but we do come through here now and then, so will definitely come again.
