I was so excited to try the tuna poke “marinated in a kimchi base” per the menu. However, it tasted like SWEET teriyaki sauce, NOTHING like kimchi. When I asked the lady working if it was a kimchi base, she said “No, it’s more a unagi sauce mixed other sauces.” Why would you write kimchi base on your menu, very misleading! On top of that, the tuna pieces were the size of green peas and the rest of the plate was just cucumber. I’ve never seen tuna pieces cut up that small! My husband ordered the “First street special” which stated “smoked salmon…” and it turned out to be deep fried with a pea size amount of salmon?

Benicia has so many restaurant choices. This one is a must try! A small family owned Japanese restaurant for dine in and take out. You can sit at the small Sushi counter or at a table in the small dining room. The people are nice and friendly and they have a good selection of Sushi Rolls and other dishes. We made a reservation just in case. Free parking is on the street. Casual dining for family, business and date nights.Vegetarian options: vegetarian dishes are available.Kid-friendliness: They have kid friendly mealsWheelchair accessibility: no stairs

The salmon melted in my mouth. So delicious! We went at lunch on a Saturday. The service was absolutely fantastic and genuine. The fish was fresh and so was the wasabi. I’m from Santa Cruz originally and currently am in Roseville… I wish we had more restaurants at this caliber. So good!
We had the most terrible lunch I have had in years today at Kalgan Sushi. The soup was awful. The soggy battered tempura which consisted of a tiny sliver of shrimp, three thick slices of potato, one tiny slice of carrot, and a partial slice of oversized zucchini, was probably the most disgusting tempura I have been served anywhere. We were also served the tiniest portion of beef teriyaki possible, which did not matter much to me, because both the meat and sauce were so bad I could not eat it anyway. My husband ate mine, even though he said he did not like it, but he was hungry. We were also served hard dry gyoza, and microwaved edamame beans, and big mugs of weak tea. After paying our $71.00 bill, we escaped to the Double Rainbow Ice Cream shop next door. We have been searching for a good, authentic Japanese restaurant, but so far, we have been totally unsuccessful.

As we all struggle through the pandemic,high gas prices, and inflation it is not very easy to find some spare change to take your family out to eat! I was fortunate to cash in on my father's day gift my son gave me and we headed to our favorite spot in Benicia Ca. It's a cool sushi spot and locally owned. I really love the food and service i receive when visiting Kaigon Sushi. The Staff is amazing and the food is excellent. Please make the trip and support this local business. We need to support all our local businesses in Benicia and the best way to do that is to just get out and Go! Enjoy a nice meal with friends and family. Every customer counts, tonight's your night!!!! J
