Michael was amazing ! Great beers and excellent food! Best fish tacos in Benicia !! Fabulous Brussels sprouts with walnuts !! Save room for room for chef’s special dessert ! Michael paired beers with expertise ! Much more than a pub ! Thanks for a great time!
Michael went above and beyond to make our exceptional. Excellent food with delicious local brew. He was very personable and went out of his way to make our lunch outstanding. Looking forward to visiting again. And great atmosphere.
Found the place by accident....waitress was very nice and curtious. I had their burger and asked if they could do it keto style. It was nicely fished and tasted great. My friends had the salmon burger and fish chips both said it was awesome. Totally worth to visit
First off, the staff accommodated our senior dog in a wagon with open arms and made us feel welcome. Reasonably priced brunch with large portions. I had the Chilaquiles. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the Verde was flavorful and the presentation was nice. Although I am a big sauce guy, the ratio of sauce to chips was overpowering. Reducing the amount of sauce would also give more texture to the dish. Some of the chips got too soggy before I could finish. I like to have a bit of a crunch to the end. This reduction of sauce would also save on food cost and allow for a larger profit while keeping the customer satisfied. I'm not big on sweets but I tasted the French Toast and it was good. Loved the shaved almonds and blueberries. There was a table of youngsters that took away from the overall vibe but the staff made sure they did everything they could make our experience pleasant. I give our overall experience a 3.8 with 4 stars to the food and 5 to the staff.
The menu changes with the seasons, allowing the chef to fully flex their creativity. All of the food I've tried has been at least good, much of it VERY good! Most of all, The Cellar shines with their customer service. For me, they've always gone above and beyond, and I feel well cared for. My only complaint is that they don't live in walking distance to my house (though I do wish they offered more GF options for my friend)!
Revised 3 star review for lack of consistency:I returned to the cellar as I craved those delicious fish tacos again but this time around they weren’t so delicious. My tortilla was burnt, the oil the fish was fried in tasted old, the chef didn’t drain the oil properly after frying so my fried fish were disgustingly drenched in oil, there was no cheese included on the taco this time around, or salsa, or fresh sliced avocado - the guacamole on the tacos was oxidized so that was really gross too. I think the magical tacos I had prior were made by the chef/owner of the establishment and the ones I recently had was made by poorly trained staff - please train your staff to cook food to your excellence I don’t want to come back here again unless I know the owner is cooking that night.Prior 5 star review:Restaurant is very clean, servers are attentive and friendly, good portion sizes, the wait is a little long for the food but definitely worth the wait. The chef pours his heart into his food and you can taste it. Everything is super fresh, piping hot and cooked to perfection. We tried the fish tacos, chicken wings and pork burger with fries - 11/10. They also have a nice selection of beers - there’s something for every preference. Will come again and highly recommend if you’re in the Benicia area.
What a treat to find excellent Fish and Chips. The fish was great quality and the preparation was with care. Even the cole slaw was specially prepared. Not out of a bag kept in the refrigerator. The dressing was light and vegetables were crisp and fresh. The fish and chips were all we could hope for. Now...the reviews rave about the brussel sprouts. I am not a fan of brussel sprouts but i could have eaten they whole bowl by myself. I had good brussel sprouts the week before but the preparation was full of things i should not have. These were prepared with flavor and spices that are hard to discern but wow it comes together. Thanks you to Debbie our server. She was kind, efficient and made the meal even better. While we can't have fish and chips every week I am anxious to go back to try other menu choices. What sets the Cellar Pub apart from every other restaurant is that the professional in the kitchen clearly cares about food and makes it interesting, fun and full of flavor. I look forward to returning and i know i will always order the brussel sprouts as an appetizer.
If you ORDER TO GO ONLINE ADD 40 MINUTES to your pick up time!!! Form order confirmation to pick up more than 68 minutes...33 minutes after the estimate of 30 to 35. 9 tables seated when we arrived and a group of 6 that arrived 5 minutes before our order was DUE got their food first. (We were in the car watching them walk in).Staff was nice enough but obliviously didn't care we were waiting. Kept saying we got swamped... Really? I saw twice as many empty tables as I did seated. What happens if you really get busy? As we finally were about to get our food a possible delivery driver pulled up, grabbed a to go bag and left just as both orders hit the counter. Guess we were not the priority.Food was good, received hot and fresh right out of the kitchen but for the price and wait not sure if I'll do take out again.
Good food and service. Had prawns for appetizer. Split a hamburger and the fish & chips. Both really good. Batter for fish and chips was not heavy or greasy.
Overall, not really impressed. We were there for a late lunch (1245) and it took 45 min to get our food (table of 5) with not very many other tables.-Fish n Chips.. was great according to the two that ordered!-Cubano..waaaay to much mustard seed, my buddy had to scrape it off.-Burgers.. I really had high hopes after seeing them come out for another tablr. Mine was undercooked, my friends was overcooked. We both ordered Medium. The flavor was nothing special, I didn't even finish mine and the fries looked like some of them had been deep fried twice..

This was a kind of off the beaten path type place. The menu was very limited. But what I did have was really good. It was a Poké bowl and it tasted super fresh. The waiter was really cool and the place had an interesting vibe. There was a lot of parking outside and the food came quickly. They even had these deep fried brussels sprouts that were really good. It’s the first time in my whole life that I’ve actually eaten brussels sprouts that I liked.I definitely suggest checking this place out. It’s small, but the food is really tasty.
great burger with apoli, arugula andblue cheese! big pour in glass of wine! Paintings in walls by my friend, Terry Hughes! Good vibe in there.
Great food and the staff are friendly
I have previously enjoyed their lunches. Tonight was the worst dinner experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Service was absolutely deplorable. Menu was limited. Food came in parts for a table of four, so three ate cold food waiting for the “exotic” fish and chips to arrive a long time later, after the entire order took almost an hour. The kitchen was literally smoking the entire place out with uncontrollable kitchen fires and/or no exhaust fans, necessitating all doors to be opened to the cold weather so we could all freeze along with our waiting food while waiting for the fourth plate to arrive. Worst part - absolutely no acknowledgement, consideration, let alone an apology from whom ever was masquerading to be our waitress. I will not return.
Those spiral fries! The best I’ve ever had. We met family here on a Monday night - none of us local and therefore unknown. We pulled up and thought it might be closed. Turned out to be a undiscovered gem. Great food, great service and a cool vibe.
