Why are they currently closed??? The posted days & hours says open on Mondays... Is this location permanently closed??? There has been a chain on the front door since shortly before Thanksgiving, & hasn't opened yet...

So slow I was not happy and by the time we got our food it was cold.

Just randomly closed middle of day though sign on door and web say open. Real third world management.

The only good thing is a root beer float to drink.

Chill and friendly staff, clean place. I'm not going to a fast food joint for anything special, just reliable food and this place delivers. That being said, as someone that's eaten an absurd amount of chicken tenders in my life, these were the best chicken tenders I've ever freaking had. The cheese curds and the fries are solid too. I went back and got the fish sandwich later on and it's also really good!! I personally prefer it over any other any other fast food fish sandwich I've ever had.

My wife and I have been going to this a&w here and there and we could not help but notice how attentfull, courteous and friendly this one young lady was when we went there today. Her name was Michelle ..as soon as we walked in we were greated with a big smile as she was already saying what we were going to order...Now that's service! Hard to find now a days, REFRESHING

A&W All-American Food is alive and doing quite well thank you thanks to their newest location, which was formerly the Bauhaus Automotive, on the intersection of Ashby and Telegraph Avenues in what makes a newly constructed huge food court that houses not only a Chevron gas station, its convenience store, a Krispy Krunchy location and of course this newest location of A&W. All of this plus an outdoor patio area for diners to enjoy a lunchtime snack makes this the ultimate new convenient lunch spot for college kids and Sutter Alta Bates Medical Center and affiliate location employees alike. Of course, since I was in the neighborhood for an appointment, and I knew that A&W had just opened, so of course I had to make a visit for a quick bite. As with other locations, they have a lot of dining options especially when it comes to combination meals, so with this in mind I ordered a number one, which was a Papa Burger, but instead of a soda and French Fries I got a Freeze and a side of Onion Rings. It does cost a little extra but not that much as the Freeze is a 50 cent increase and the Onion Rings are an 80 cent increase. First off I will always recommend that one orders a Freeze instead of a Float as it's, in my opinion, the best kind of drink they offer, as they now use soft serve vanilla ice cream instead of their patented vanilla ice cream. The onion rings are a solid side, as I think they're always a good option versus French Fries and if a fast food joint is going to offer it, I'm ordering it! Are they as good say Carl's Jr's Onion Rings? That's debatable, but what's not debatable is that their double hamburger patty Papa Burger, made with two slices of American cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and white onions, was an ooey-gooey mess as expected and I loved every sloppy bite. Obviously with this glowing review, a return visit to A&W Restaurant will be on my radar. Now, when I asked my cashier how long they've been open, she politely replied with an "about three and a half weeks," which is remarkable considering the tough times we are currently living in for any new business to open, franchise or not. Where else can you order burgers, chili cheese hot dogs, and cheese curds and sip on an authentic root beer float made with what they call homemade root beer? Only at A&W and now that they are in the heart of Berkeley's tony Elmwood neighborhood, I'm so glad they have welcomed them into the area where there is so much high-end dining around that they now have a convenient place to get your gas, park your car in an area of Berkeley where parking is hard to come by anyway and then get some fried chicken or burgers, or both quickly? Consider me a new loyal patron of this location of A&W!

I don't think I've been here since I was 10. I miss the frosty glass mugs but have to say son and I thought burgers, fries and onion rings were delicious- fresh, hot and tasty. And our cashier Ebony was so warm and friendly.

I waited months for this place to open! Happy it finally did! I have been a few times since opening. The cashiers have always been nice and I haven't had to wait too long for my food. It's always hot so it's fresh. And the workers seem to not mess around and actually do their job quickly. If you have a question they answer without any attitude as well which is nice since that happens in some places. This specific branch does not have the daily deals yet like the other restaurants usually do but the people I have asked said they think those are coming when business picks up more. They just started Doordash too which is great. I can see it becoming even better once people are allowed to do indoor dining again. Props to all the workers there who are trying to get this place up and running during the Covid19 pandemic!

The food is good. I decided to get some chicken sandwiches, vanilla shakes and chili cheese fries. The vanilla flavor is the least sweet (my preference) and is still very tasty, it includes whip cream and a cherry. The chili cheese fries are good as well but don’t ask for extra chili, the amount it comes with is already enough. (Mine tasted like too much chili but this was my fault since I asked for extra). The chicken sandwiches remind me of the ones Popeye’s have in terms of size (the sandwich itself and the big chunk of chicken in between). Maybe it’s just me but they are just a little bit on the salty side, just a tad bit but for those who are sensitive to the salt flavor, maybe ask them to salt the chicken less!? (idk if it’s possible and it may just be me but just FYI). The employees are kind and ready to give you what you need (condiments, utensils, napkins) so 5 stars to them. 4 for the food.
