I have never had a bad meal from this place! Sushi is fresh and delicious. My wife love the chicken teriyaki and tempura.
Beautiful interior, amazing food and lovely service made our special night more special. Our final bite of red snapper nigiri was the highlight of the meal. Been here twice now and it's becoming our favorite sushi spot. Run, don't walk to Akemi!
Honestly, I was surprised with how fast the food came out and how premium it tasted. The sushi was fresh, and the ramen was incredible. The ambiance of the restaurant was also chill & upscale without breaking the bank.
We went to Akemi for a birthday celebration. We were very dissatisfied with the food especially the Wagu sirloin combo. Service was terrible. They forgot an appetizer, did not being a fork we requested. There was a long wait to order. We will never go back. Worst Japanese food ever in our experience. My daughter got sick after eating Chirashi in a to go order.
The food was creative, beautiful and very tasty. I was there for lunch and there is a wall of windows so the ambiance was fine for daytime.
Akemi's food consistently impresses us. We brought friends who also really liked the food, particularly the kale "salad" (which is really more like a soup) and the fried Brussel sprouts appetizer. My tekka rolls were quite tasty. It was a Sunday night, and the restaurant was already filling up. As such, we had different servers, and it took a while for our food to arrive. Still, the wait staff was attentive and explained that they were very busy (evident from the steady flow of customers - all tables were occupied by 6:15 p.m.), which caused us to ask for utensils and water a couple of times. All in all, however, we had a very enjoyable dinner out with our friends. We'll definitely return again soon.
Everything was excellent. We have been patrons for years and turned on some out of towners to your place.
Have always loved the food at Akemi, but the service can be quite slow and order in which they bring food odd. For example, there always seems to be one person waiting for their food until everyone else is almost done. We also have to ask multiple wait staff for things often, as our first requests for things like extra saki glasses, more ginger and wasabi (they never provide enough at first), typically go unaddressed. Also, the prices have gone WAY up recently - it is really out of our budget at this point. So great food, meh service, and too expensive.
Delicious food and really nice servers. About lad, but it was a crowded Friday night at prime time. We requested a quiet table on the back and they honored that request.
The sushi was beautiful prepared and tasty. We enjoyed the sake flight. It was difficult to get our check at the end of the meal.

Mainly had sashimi and sushi - excellent quality and beautifully made. They were also incredibly accommodating to us and smoked some salmon for those who couldn't eat raw fish! 11/10 would go again.

My friend lives in Benicia and I live in San Bruno and it's always a challenge to find a good restaurant in Berkeley or Oakland. We've had great successes and superb failures. Akemi is in the first category. Lovely food, great service, and a real bargain for wonderful Japanese treats. We are already planning our next trip there.
Had a really excellent meal here with my family. I ordered the wagyu combo, medium rare and was really happy with it. The other members of my party had the chirashi don and the unagi don and everyone enjoyed their meals. Great atmosphere. My only small complaint is that ai thought the price for my beer (Asahi Super Dry) was a bit high. I would definitely eat here again!
Nice simple offerings. All well prepared and presented. I will return as I have many times already.
As a rule, I like to order a selection of nigiri but I found the selection quite limited.
Tai was very tough so I mentioned it to the server. The sushi chef presented a complimentary chu toro by way of an apology. That was very kind of him.
Spicy tuna seems to just be tuna mixed with sriracha so was disappointing. Unagi was overly sweet and a little dry. Shrimp tempura inside a roll that I ordered was chewy and overcooked.
I think I am obviously very spoiled after years of going to Sugata at the bottom of Solano and before that, Sushi Banzai on Camelia in Berkeley, as I know a lot of reviewers love this place. Sadly, I shall not be returning.
