Since the owner replied that they have no record of me coming in, thought I’d help by posting my bank transaction. This seems to be a trend of the shop for posts they don’t like. Instead of being so defensive work on the receipt. Most of the negative feedback is on the taste and texture of the bagel. I believe my review was very fair.

Went back for a second time to see if I was wrong about their bagel quality since the owner blamed me for not toasting the bagel. I’ve always been taught that you don’t toast a fresh bagel but hey could just be preference. Anyways unfortunately for me I was right. The bagels TO ME are not good. I got a breakfast sandwich and toasted the bagel and I’m just not a fan of the bagel quality. They’re very dense. I went at 6am so I’m assuming they were at their freshest. The person who welcomed me who I assume is the owner was very nice and welcoming. Price point was fair. I wanted to buy a Diet Coke but all the bottles were expired in September.

I love this place. I enjoy their bagels and the people there. A family owned business, a gem. Not sure why the below review is so harsh.

So glad I finally got to try Berkeley Bagels! I've passed by it while biking by on the Ohlone Greenway and been curious about it. The works bagel sandwich and the ham and tomato melt were soooo good. We devoured these before I thought to take a picture. We were craving a breakfast-y bagel and were surprised that some of the nearby bagel shops like Bageltopia and Boichik don't have these (mostly just lox and cream cheese ones). But Berkeley bagels came through for us! ?

When in the bay area, I have to stop in and buy a dozen to take home to Honolulu. I usually freeze them and then toast when I'm ready to enjoy one. These bagels are delightfully chewy and just dense enough for your favorite smear. Today I tried the sea salt. Us Hawaiians love our sea salt, and I think sliced into rounds will be perfect as a bagel chip for dipping into something yummy like Arizmendi hummus!

Bagels I Hard , Eggs are made like they in jail or school cafeteria. Food isn’t good regardless better breakfast spots in the area . They responded to my other review like I wasn’t a customer as well , if the food is trash it’s trash don’t eat here bad business and food .

“The works” breakfast sandwich was real fresh and good. I also ordered 2 asiago bagels untoasted. The bagels were some of the worst I’ve had. They are dense, cold and hard. I’d recommend sticking to the sandwiches.

My reply to the owners reply. In order my bagels untoasted everywhere I go. Also idk giving your service and atmosphere 5 stars was a “bad” review. I rated y’all 3 stars as in average. Also complemented your breakfast sandwich. Maybe actually take honest feedback back and make some changes in your bagel recipe. I get I’m hard to please. We spend good money when we visit small businesses. I deserve quality everything. If your food sucks I’m going to say it. If your service is great I’m also going to say it. Lastly I was never questioned or advised to toast my bagels. I would have rejected the offer but just want to be factual.

Berkeley is abuzz about some other bagel shops that have gotten coverage in the NYT, but I like the bagels here just fine and I am originally an East Coaster. I will often get a couple dozen and freeze them and the kids have them for breakfast all week long. The service is always friendly and fast. They also make nice sandwiches.

Surely the best bagels in California! First time in and I was surprised by the freshness of the food. Staff very friendly and fast as well. Prices are very affordable. I’ll be back for the home made bagels and fresh juices.
