When someone asks me where to get a superlative gibraltar/cortado I usually say "Blue Bottle has the smoothest of all." Recently this location has got me doubting this assessment. A friend of mine remarked upon this too. Mine was slightly sour/bitter. Not sure of the source of this, whether the beans were over-baked or if the pull on the espresso was to slow or hot, or some other delicate balance of the humors was off. Got the Hayes Valley expresso here. Didn't really know what to expect, but it was pretty good, not as flavorful as I would have liked. Comes with tonic water. The atmosphere is pretty cool and staff did a good job. Definitely a premium cafe, usually less crowded than other spots nearby.

We were in Berkeley for a business meeting, and my colleague suggested we stop by this Blue Bottle Coffee location for a caffeine fix.
The place is nicely set up. It has large glass windows on two sides, letting in plenty of natural light, so you can enjoy your caffeine drink while watching the foot traffic outside. We opted for takeaway drinks, but the wait was a bit longer than usual due to a rush and a shift...
