I have raved about the quality of Comal's food for over a decade and took a friend who has extensive knowledge of Mexican food. Sadly all of our food was BLAND. Still love the ambiance and service and drinks were great, but food has gone downhill. Hoping this was just a bad night as I've been going there since it first opened.
Tacos were tasty. Drinks are on the small side. Service was adequate but generally the server was inattentive.
Food... okay. Service... friendly and professional. But... insanely noisy. We had to shout to hear each other and... that's no way to enjoy a night out. Between those reflective walls i won't be returning.
Unique and delicious food; look forward to returning some time.Excellent margaritas, chips, avocado dip and salsa.
We came as a group of college students and received a classy meal that blended flavor and comfort. Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a casual fine dining experience that offers Michelin level quality. (Amazing pricing too, about 30 dollars a person)
Service was very good. The Margarita and Manhattan were spot on. Plenty of guacamole and good sauces. The best chile rellano we've ever had. Then, as an experiment, we tried the Tiayuda...not so good, not enough black beans and onions and the Brussels sprouts were just wrong. We would still go back, especially for an early before the theater dinner.
Comal continues to innovate and impress with tasty food, excellent service, and a revived cocktail (and mocktail) menu. The chefs blend Oaxacan and Bay Area food cultures into a fascinating and palate-pleasing offering with both established favorites and seasonal experiments. The service is attentive and helpful, making the experience feel seamless. Do be advised that their new pricing structure includes a service fee of 20% in place of tips. Oddly, this fee is taxable, driving its actual cost closer to 22% of the food and drinks tab. Customers can ask to adjust this fee, but it makes for an awkward conversation.
Top notch Mexican food in downtown Berkeley, within a short walk of the theaters and other venues on Addison Street.
One of my absolute favorite restaurants. Not cheap but well worth the splurge. I love the fixed tip in total ( although the server still asked if i needed my change which was overkill-the tip was already included in my tab). The food was fresh & tasty. The chile relenos my favorites- best I've ever eaten. Salads are always fresh & unique. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Went there with just 2 of us. I'd like to go back in a bigger group so I could try more things

Comal has gotten reave reviews. I found the food to be good but not the absolutely best Mexican food in the Bay Area. The prices for 2-3 people seem high.
Fantastic help garnering a large table for our large group of friends. The large platters of chicken and wagu steak were delicious and fun to share. The saladswere fresh and loaded with interesting seasonal components. Drinks were generous and well crafted. Waitstaff was attentive. Truly a great meal.
Tasty selections, smaller plates great to share so that you can experience more flavors. The best flan!
Went there first time for a 5:30 pre-concert dinner. We ordered a variety of small plates to try a variety of flavors, and we were not disappointed (except they were out of my Stout beer!) We'd definitely like to go back and try some other menu items!
We enjoyed our food, especially guacamole and chips which were standouts, hard to really shine on something so usual.
