This place opens early and has the very best strong lattes & great location (corner of College & Ashby).

So sad to see you go, Roma!I have to write a special review to say goodbye to Espresso Roma – a landmark on the corner of College and Ashby. I’m not sure how long Roma has been there – the first Yelp review was written in 2006, but it’s the kind of place that many people don’t bother reviewing, so it may be there longer than that. Coincidentally, I moved into the neighborhood in 2006 so it has always been my local (along with The Beanery, which sadly closed a few years ago). I’m not sure if it’s official yet, but I know that Roma is about to serve its last espresso. To all the folk who have worked there (both the kind ones – hey Alvaro and Maria! - and the grumpy ones), to the lovely folk who played piano and sung in the afternoons, and to the other customers who came to Roma on a regular basis: FAREWELL!I’ll miss those days of working remotely at Roma and hanging out with the wide selection of peeps who found themselves there. The book clubs, the musicians, the people learning Chinese and Spanish, the Dungeons and Dragons groups, the tutors and tutees, the eccentric academic types chatting up students one third of their age, the Boggle group, and of course Kim, waiting for her usual table at the back.

This cafe serves up excellent coffee drinks to the neighborhood. I look forward to the days when it can be full indoors once again.

Update - I just passed Roma and can confirm it's closing - there's a For Lease sign on the wall :( To all the folk who have worked there (both the kind ones - hey Alvaro and Maria! - and the grumpy ones), to the lovely folk who played piano and sung in the afternoons, and to the other customers who came to Roma on a regular basis: FAREWELL! No Green Stars rating for this review - but I'll give it five teardrops :' (

I decided to go have coffee near my new Millbrae apt this morning. I was so surprised I was met by a sweet and accommodating lady who was very helpful and decided to add breakfast to go also. I talked to the other lady and told her I'm new here and her hazelnut latte was so yummy. She told me they just got approved you can eat inside & outside because it all opens up. The egg, bacon, cheese wrap was so yummy. I will be back to try the salmon, avocado, toast and tiramisu I next week. Thank you ladies for making my morning. Ingrid lee

This place is a hidden gem. The coffee is strong and the service was above and beyond. I walked down from Alvarado and Tunnel Road where I hadn't had power since the night prior. I asked the person working, (I forgot to ask his name but I think he was the owner?), if I could charge my phone. He was gracious, allowing me to charge it there while I sipped on the double shot of espresso on ice with a splash of half & half. It warmed my heart that I was greeted with such kindness in these hard times, especially when asking for a favor. I am very grateful and I look forward to coming back to Roma. I highly recommend the iced espresso!

Went for lunch today. Waited for someone to take our order. Ignored and noone at register. We left and went somewhere else. They need lessons from the Hopkins branch.

A shadow of its former self. Covid 19 has not been kind to it.

Coffee and food are OK, and they tolerate our go club! We hope to return when they re-open, meeting on Sundays from 10:30 to 3:00.

The man who claims to be the manager is the rudest man I've encountered in a long time. On Friday night at 7:30 I and a friend went looking for a quiet place for a chat and a latte. When I ordered a decaf latte I was told there was no more decaf (?? Beans). So we asked for tea. He slammed a box of tea bags down and gave us each a paper cup of hot water. When asked what time they closed, we were told 9. Website says 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. So at 8:15 we were the only customers and he clearly wanted to close up shop. He turned up music very loudly and began putting chairs on tables and mopping the floor. When we asked the music be turned down, he said they were closed. Wow what a way to run a business. Next time we'll go to Bakers Common.

This coffeehouse presents a small but satisfying breakfast menu in a laidback atmosphere.
