Incredible hash browns! As a British person I was extremely impressed with the hash browns here. The staff member that I spoken to was really helpful.Unfortunately not a lot of vegan options.

Getting food here

These workers were extremely rude. One of them yelled at my younger sister for no reason. It was a terrible experience, so I would not recommend coming here. I wish there was a way to complain about their behavior. This is completely unacceptable.

I ordered a coffee mocha, but the staff didn't put in chocolate syrup. The chocolate tasted so light that I asked for it again, but it didn't work. I don't want to go again. Other friends, like me, have suffered many times. There are too many errors in the process of manufacturing orders.

Sometimes it's super crowded so all the workers are in a rush, but other than that it's good and convenient for a Berkeley student with flex dollars

good place to get some food between classes if you don't want to go off campus

I got the egg burrito which was good (8.5/10)My friend got the ancient grains salmon bowl. The salmon from there was solid, not bad but could be better with some seasoning IMO. They rated the ancient grains bowl a 8/10.The line wasn’t too long in the morning (10am) and it’s a convenient spot to grab breakfast or lunch on campus

Like other people who have commented on the Pete's cafe workers, I agree that they are EXTREMELY rude. After waiting 30 minutes in line to order my coffee, I said I wanted oat milk 4 times because the worker was visibly not paying attention to me. When I got my order, it was not oat milk. When I asked someone to remake it for me, she was incredibly rude about it and yelled "remake, remake! Come get it because I'm not going to hold it for you" when she was finished, in front of everyone who was lined up. I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. 2 stars because the other employees, especially the man at the checkout station, are nice.

Come here for lunch break if you have class in Dwinelle/Wheeler or are studying at one of the campus libraries by the Glade! $10 burgers and Philly cheesesteaks, and they served really fresh salads with fresh fruits and tender chicken before the pandemic. The line is very long at lunch hours, and I wish they had more outdoor seats. I've been hearing great things about their breakfast burritos since freshman year but have not yet had a chance to try them.

Definitely better than the dining hall food so come here if you have meal swipes, but expect a 30 min wait during peak times (11:30-1:30 and 6-7)

Unhealthy, overpriced food and “necessities.” Lazy and rude staff. Just go to Browns for the better food and less staff interaction. Frequently closes before schedule.

Out of all the restaurants around Berkeley that take student meal swipes, Golden Bear Café takes the metaphorical cake for one of the best places to stop by for quality food. With delicious burgers and crisp fries, along with vegan options, the GBC is a nice place to pass by when heading down to Lower Sproul Plaza or going to Dwinelle Hall for a meal. Salads, loaded fries, and a lot of beverages work as great replacements that will get you the most value out of a meal swipe. Additionally, the GBC stocks a bevy of instant ramen, drinks, and a special Peet's Coffee for the early birds that need a sip of coffee to fully wake up.Avoid prime times from 11:00 AM to 1:30 AM on school weekdays, since the line for service tends to be pretty long as students go for their lunch breaks here. Lines can be a little confusing as some of the check-out stations actually double as meal ordering stations, but that really depends on how staffed they are and how much people there is in line. Overall, if you're a student here at Berkeley and hate eating at the dining halls, Golden Bear Café is a nice place to get some grub.
