I finally had pie from here, right before they closed. Honestly, I didn't get it? I have had better homemade pie from friends or chez moi. The prices were extraordinary, but the pies, service, and ambiance were not. It's an industrial kitchen tucked away in a light industrial zone, and there are a few tables, surrounded by corrugated metal. They didn't have slices for all of flavors, and I didn't want to spend $20 on a tiny pie. They didn't have coffee or beverages, and only disposable tableware, so it's primarily a take-out place. It might have been an off day as it was the week after "pie day." I would try them again, but not on my dime.

I found out about Pie Society from the headline "James Beard Award-winning pastry chef closing popular Berkeley bakery"You don't know what's good until it's gone T-TI'm wary of hyped-up places because they sometimes turn out underwhelming, but Pie Society was totally worth the 2.5h wait and ~50 splurge. I arrived ~9:15am for their 10am opening. As a small business, they don't have much staff so the line moved slowly and I walked out with my pies at ~11:45pm. I came prepared with a hat for sun protection and a book for the wait, but I chatted with people in line around me and discovered some awesome food places in the Bay Area (the community is great! It's like our very own pie society).I got a slice of each to try everything and make my own mosiac frankenpie. I wish I hoarded more, but I wanted to be mindful of people in line behind me and the disaster of selling out when it's your turn.Everything was delicious perfection. Passionfruit bayleaf meringue pie - their signature OG. I fell madly in love with the layers... first the crack crust, then passionfruit curd, then a subtly floral bayleaf sweet cream, and finally expert toasted meringue in beautiful concentric circles. Apple rhubarb pie - I was mildly disappointed since the menu had initially specified apple rhubarb cherry pie, but I guess they ran out of cherries. Nonetheless, the tart pie was a masterpiece, topped with a crunchy brown butter shortbread crumble. Tastes like spring in a pie.Bourbon chocolate nut pie - oh this one was loaded. It's an extremely advanced version of pecan pie, except with a boatload of pecans and walnuts, blended with bourbon, brown sugar, and honey, along with orange and chocolate for good measure. It takes a few bites to grown on you, but out of all the pies, this tasted the most unique and sophisticated.Key lime pie - tangy, prominent lime flavors, with a garnish of citrus zest. The graham cracker crust is a classic pairing.Coconut cream pie - very coconut-y with coconut bavarios, coconut jam, creamy coconut filling, and toasted coconut flakes as the chef's kiss. The description mentions that the crust has a touch of rum, but I didn't notice it since it was predominantly cream. Oat cherry almond cookie - Not surprisingly, just about everything is amazing. The cookie was exceptional; the almond bits had a nice dimension, and the tart cherries added a kick.Thank you, Pie Society, for your hard work and all the smiles and happiness you've brought to the society. Looking forward to the pop-ups!

I got there before the place opened and stood in line for 45 minutes and wasn't even halfway there. I was trying to buy pies to bring to Easter breakfast at a friends house and was left empty-handed. I know they're closing but they should've made better provisions instead of making customers wait over an hour and a half to get pies.

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to try this shop before they close April 22. I pre-ordered online a few weeks to pick up on weekend. I believe they do offer walk in purchases if you are not able to pre-order. Also, even if you pre-order, you have to wait in the same line as walk in orders. Be prepared to wait a little. I ordered one chicken pot pie and Frankenpie (which offers a slice of every pie that is on their menu). Chicken pot pie: you have to bake it at home for about 40 minutes before serving, but it is totally worth it. The chicken was flavorful and crust was so flakey. So delicious. Frankenpie: this was so unique. I loved the Passionfruit Bay Leaf Meringue Pie (which is their most popular pie). I also enjoyed their Blushing Apple Streusel Pie and Key Lime Pie too. My least favorite was the Walnut Pecan Bourbon, but only because I am not a fan of walnuts or pecans to begin with. There's a small parking lot, but plenty of street parking near by too. Highly recommend if you can try this place before they close!

Bestie brought this for my bday - I'm a big time key like aficionado and this is among the best EVER of key lime pies. Absolutely beautiful to look at and properly fresh tart flavor. Quality crust. We were all totally aghast to hear pie society may be closing shop soon. What an amazing find but sad I can't try more of their pies !

I should have submitted this review of Pie Society a LONG time ago, and it's only now that I learned they will be shutting down the Berkeley kitchen and storefront. I was a fan of Angela Pinkerton's creations since she started doing pop ups at the start of the pandemic. I've tasted her sweet as well as savory baked goods over the past three years and have never met a miss. Maybe it's the creative and inspired flavor combinations. Maybe it's the esthetic of perfection she and her team brought to every item. Or maybe it's just the obscene amount of butter in her crusts. Probably all of the above!I'll miss rolling into the shop on the weekends to pick up the latest seasonal surprise from Pie Society. I've heard that Pinkerton may still do a pop-up here and there even after closing. And there's hope that she and the team will perhaps recreate themselves for the next phase of Pie Society. Whatever happens, count me in as a willing and anxious fan!

If you're a crust person THIS IS THE PIE!! As a self-acclaimed crust person, the crust is thick, flaky, buttery, and absolutely delicious. And the fillings are such fun combinations that even a crust lover like myself takes scoops of just filling (shocking)! Staff is super friendly, and patient while I was indecisive in picking a pie flavor haha. I got the hibiscus apple pie (yum) and my friend got the bacon quiche (YUM). The crust at the bottom of the quiche was to die for.Place is tucked away in the corner of a bigger lot, but there are helpful signs along seventh street to guide you! Sad news, the berkeley shop is closing April 22 so go while you can !!

Delicious chicken pot pie. Good coffee. Outdoor seating. Nice restrooms. Friendly

Tasty pies are worth the trek when you are able to find them. Pie Society is on the pricier side but their unique flavors make it worth the treat every once in a while. The passion fruit was a favorite and the pecan whiskey was also delicious, though it would have been nice to have the option to have additional whipped cream. Their cookie selection is superb and you can't leave here with just one slice. Odd hours in the day but if you are able to make it out, I would recommend!

Ok, it's $40+ for a large pie. That's a lot of coin. But, let's talk about it. Backstory: I bought three pies for a lunch at a friends house: chicken pot pie, a bacon quiche and a chocolate hazelnut cream pie. These pies are seemingly well known for their incredible buttery and flakey crusts; which indeed are remarkable.I admit this would be a 4-4.5 star review, but alas, pies aren't always easy to come by and I pay my respects to the chef who from reading other reviews came to us from Michelin rated Eleven Madison Park in New York. The savory pies feed 4-5 people. If you love a good pot pie, I mean that chicken pot pie was delicious and again, fed 4 people. The flaky crust, big chunks of chicken, carrot and peas. I don't usually get down on pot pie, so this treat was well worth it.The quiche was incredible and probably feeds comfortably 3 people, 4 if not everyone is super hungry, or 4 if you had some side salad involved. The sweet cream pie was actually maybe a solid third for me if i ranked the pies. I tried a slice of the hibiscus fruity one, which tasted like the best pop tart you've ever had. Although, it was rather a small slice for the $8/$9 price tag. The hazelnut chocolate cream one was incredibly rich. Dense chocolate with an espresso cream. It was a lot. I personally wouldn't order it again, but from reviews, some people would give up a kidney for one, so there's that. The staff was incredibly nice and patient with me as I may be one of the more indecisive people you've met. They also offer slice, mini pie and full pie optIons, so important decisions needed to be made. I came later in the day, and the sweet pie options were limited. They have a few tables outside if looking to enjoy some coffee and pie, which is just so cute.I'd return when I need to bring treats to friends. Everyone likes to be a hero, and you're typically a hero when you have bougie pies in hand.

Delicious. Easier to find the place from Parker Street.

Great pie spot! Got two slices of pie. Chocolate bourbon walnut pecan pie: has a nice thick flaky crust. Layer of chocolate, not sure what the middle layer is, and a nutty walnut/pecan mixture to top it with. Can definitely taste the alcohol! Apple cranberry streusel pie: I love this pie. Perfect sweet and tart, sweet but not overly sweet. Love the granola crumble on top. Would get this pie again. There were a lot of selections! I would definitely come back again!

Best pie I've eaten in a long time. I had a slice and my wife ate the rest of the pie meant for 6 people. Fatty

The blackberry fruit pie was really good, as was the key lime pie. They have a few tables if you want to sit outside and they also serve coffee. Overall A delightful place to get a sugar rush.
