THE best pizza in Berkeley, hands down

Great place to grab a bite to eat at before a performance at zellerbach hall. Salad and pizza were both delicious.

An amazing dining experience and the best pepperoni pizza I've ever had full stop - Priceless!

My second time here and much more of an intimate experience because I was by myself killing some time before I met friends at the Freight and Salvage.

My pizza was cooked perfectly - just the way I like it with some of the edges of the nickel sized pepperoni's a bit charged and bursting with flavor. The sauce, obviously an old family recipe had been cooking for hours and had a deep rich flavor. And the crust- ohh the crust held up well to the tomato sauce and had a chewy and crisp texture.

The kind young lady who was serving me was confident I could finish the Tiramisu no matter how full I was. She was right.

Matt says if you find yourself headed to downtown Berkeley either for a Cal event or to the Freight and Salvage, be sure to make reservations in advance and feast on some of the best pizza in the Bay Area. It's a small space and fills up fast

I can hardly wait to go back.

This is the best pepperoni pizza in the Bay Area. But don't come here; I can hardly get a table as it is.

Our pizza aficionado friend had told us about this place. It delivers!
Ambiance: The outdoor seating in the back is chill and a great place to hang out and enjoy.
Food: We ordered a red sauce pizza and a white sauce pizza. Honestly I normally prefer white sauce but the red sauce at Rose is next level tasty. The crust was superb and the pizza was great with their house red wine.
Service: friendly and attentive
Price: Bay Area fair price for the best pizza around
I’d be happy to go back

Had a fantastic pepperoni and jalepeno pizza. Top notch! Made a reservation prior as there isn’t much seating. This is a must try! We also liked the spicy ceaser salad and fancy anchovies.

Thin crust crisp pizza that I consider NY style. Delicious pepperoni with jalapenos and a few other pizza options. Beer and wine. I recall no wine by the glass, bottle only. Reservations highly recommended. Our go to Pizza place in Berkeley. 😉 UPDATE- STILL GREAT!

It’s a small pizzeria with pizzas and salads and appetizers. The salads are small and the pizza was tough and chewy. I had to literally pull the crust apart with my hands. And my jaw was tired from trying to eat that. The toppings are just alright and the sauce was almost tasteless. There’s not enough cheese either. I don’t understand the hype. I’ve had better pizza that didn’t require me to wrestle with the crust.

Pizza was fine! Was it one of the best 22 in the country, as the NYT claimed? Don’t think so. I’d take Cheeseboard or Arizmendi over Rose for a more flavorful pizza.

Before arriving, I received a text message saying: “Be respectful of your dining window. 1.5h for 2-3 people, 1h 45m for 4 people, 2h for 5-6 people.” I guess that’s the formula used to calculate if your business is worth their time.

After arriving for a 6:30 indoor reservation, we were seated within 10 minutes at the outdoor patio. Not a big deal, but the patio lacks the coziness of the interior.

The menu announces: “No half and half, no make your own.” Keep that in mind if you were thinking a pizza place would be flexible on their pizza options.

Tiramisu was good, and I’m happy to say we were in and out in under 1.5 hours.

I really liked my first time here, but the second time everything was a miss. The dough was so chewy, it was hard to eat, the burrata salad and ceasar salad just felt unbalanced with the amount of toppings it had.

This is a miss by the NYT pizza list. Pepperoni pizza was overcooked... crust was hard and pepperoni was charred.
