I enjoyed the decor and weekly poetry slams!

Great vibes, friendly people, fun events! The Irish dance lessons are so fun- very beginner-friendly! I’d definitely come back to try more. Also love the values of this place- really a space for community, art, and advocating for liberation- so cool to see and get to support.

Edit: I had the chance to watch a Wednesday poetry slam and it was Amazing! The featured poet, Brandon Leake, had WON America’s got talent so I knew he’d be amazing but every other poet there held their own and delivered such awesome, raw performances! I felt very lucky to have spontaneously dropped by that day. ALSO the root beer or soda floats that they do are super yummy if you have a big sweet tooth like me or don’t drink alcohol but still want to support an awesome establishment.

Loved my experience both as an artist and as a patron!

I was there for the Irish Ceilidh dancing every Monday night. Lesson for beginners, some dances for beginners and for advanced. Everyone welcome. Wonderful live music. This is the real traditional Irish dance. They have their own style, like a village in County Clare in Ireland might have. They have been doing this at The Starry Plough for 50 years. And this is just the Monday night I am raving about. Check out their calendar for other music and events.

A solid option, open late, with plenty of live music and dance. Drinks and food are extremely expensive, despite the casual atmosphere and grounded energy of the venue. Service is hard to come by, but brisk and effective when it arrives. If you like communal dance, live amateur music, dart-throwing, oven-baked Mac ‘N Cheese, and political sloganeering of the Marxist, revolutionary, and classical Third World variety, this is your place. A true Berkeley institution, though clearly not for all.

I don’t eat at the Starry Plough… I go there for the Sunday night Irish music jam sessions
It’s been going on for decades.
It is super amazing … Whether you are a Musician or you are there to just listen.
Sunday night… Especially between 7 and 8 PM… Is a special time to be there.

On Monday, there is a great Irish band on stage and lively Irish dancing in the room.
It’s like being transported to Dublin!
A very special place!

If you’re wondering where to go in a Monday night, come to the Starry Plow! The people are super welcoming and the dance lessons are free—hard to find places that build community like this nowadays.
