We have given this place three tries and although the first trip was fine, the next two were not. The food is good on a good day. The service is very poor. I don't know if there is a manager but we have only gone on the weekend and the young staff seems totally inept to provide a basic breakfast service. Last time we went we waited at least 45 minutes before our food came, took forever to even take our order. Then we waited another ten minutes for silverware. I asked for silverware four times and tried to find some myself, but there was none available without entering the kitchen. Each time I told the waiter that we needed silverware they proceeded to do something else - our food was on the table getting cold, absolutely unacceptable! We gave them 'one last try' today and again, miserably slow service even though there weren't many guests and they had a staff of six.Coffee was served warmish, ugh. One person in our group waited fifteen minutes after everyone else's food arrived. Half of us were done eating by then! Went to pay the bill and had been overcharged, when I pointed it out there was an extra meal and there was no hint of an apology. The food was ok but the potatoes were terrible, five plates included them and they were all barely touched. They have a beautiful location and solid menu but this place is in dire need of new management and training for the staff. We will not return and would recommend going only when you have a LOT of time to sit waiting. And if you like your coffee cold.

Food and service was really bad. Don’t know if it was just a bad day but it was a really bad experience. The service was slow. We had to remind them of our order multiple times. We ordered the alameda, tuna melt and sausage scramble. They ran out of fries, the flavor wasn’t good for any of the dishes.

Good food with large quantity. One entree can serve two people. The coffee here, specifically the cappuccino, is almost no coffee and all foam. Come here for the food. Also the outdoor seating is great featuring a nice garden.

I never write reviews but my experience here was so bad I figured I should. Came here for Sunday breakfast and there was only a few other people there. Took over 20 minutes just for someone to take our order, then took about 35 minutes to get the food out (just eggs Benedict and eggs/toast). Once it came, the eggs Benedict and side potatoes were completely cold. I am not one to send food back but after waiting that long and getting cold food... so I asked for it to be sent back, then took another 20 minutes to get that one. Waiter was apologetic and said it would be taken off the bill. Then when we went to pay (because it was taking for ever to bring check) and they did not take it off the bill, charged us full price. It was so chaotic in there that we didn’t argue and just paid and left. Sadly, this place is cute, but we will not be back.

Darn, hate to say but I agree with other recent reviews. I was pretty shocked at the experience I had this morning at the Sunny Side Cafe. The food was okay. The food was served on a paper plate. Everything was a little off. I won't return soon.

Sandwiches were decent, but they took 40 minutes to make 3 sandwiches, and they were out of fries, and their $10.50 Caesar salad was a cup of lettuce with some dressing on top. Barely bigger than the side of lettuce that came with the sandwiches.Mostly disappointed with the wait. Maybe they were very short staffed today, but they didn't warn us until after we'd ordered. Won't be coming back.

Sweet new location for this yummy cafe! The scrambles we had were really tasty - loved how crispy the home fries were, great crunchy bits. It was too chilly for us for the garden outside, but I'm excited to come back and sit out in the sunshine sometime to eat!

The service at this place is absolutely the worst I’ve ever experienced. We waited patiently for a table because it was busy, but when others were seated and served who had arrived after us we began asking questions. We were ignored and finally told we’d be seated soon. When we eventually got a table, we were ignored some more. After our order was finally taken by a very disdainful waitperson, we waited and watched as others were served. When our food finally came, there was no silverware with it, we had to ask for water, and our beverages arrived cold after we asked where THEY were. There’s more, but it goes on and on. Lesson learned: not going back and recommend that anyone seeking a place to eat go somewhere else . . . Literally, anywhere else!
Sunny side café is a berkeley hidden gem. The staff are super nice. This is hands down the best breakfast spot in town. I would recommend anyone go here.

I was frankly very disappointed. I ordered scrambled eggs for the kids that took 40 mins to arrive and seemed like something they just threw on a plate. We also ordered the veggie pesto sandwich but the pesto was nowhere to be seen; the breakfast burrito was okay but had more beans and potatoes than eggs. The freshly squeezed OJ and the coffee was fantastic - we did not try their pancakes or french toast since we were disappointed with the food that had arrived already.This was our worst dining experience of the weekend and we will definitely not recommend this place to folks with kids or vegetarians

The service was wonderful. I felt welcome and taken care of. I got a short stack of pancakes and some lemonade that was fresh and so tasty. I would love to eat here again.

Food was disgusting and undercooked! It took them over 40 minutes to prepare a simple stack of pancakes that were undercooked and tasted funny. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!
