I've stopped for dinner here a few times on the way back from Yosemite. The vibe of the place is classic and the patio at sunset is very nice. The menu has a surprising amount of vegetarian options for this kind of classic American restaurant, and the portions are generous. That said, the food is good but not great, and it comes out pretty slowly so bring a jacket.

What a gem this restaurant is tucked on the top of the mountain! After reading the great Yelp Reviews I was happy to have the restaurant exceed my expectations in terms of delicious food, great service and a convenient location (it's by far the best restaurant around in this area!). They offer a wide variety of delicious food both for dine in (inside or outside to enjoy the mountaintop view) as well as take-out. A lot of people got food to go to take back to their hotels or into Yosemite National Park. I was also impressed that they offer Vegetarian and Vegan options. I (while personally not a Vegan) ordered the Farm Fresh Vegan Sandwich which had delicious sautéed crimini mushrooms, spinach, caramelized grilled onions, grilled tomato and avocado all on top a tasty Ciabatta bread - the best part was the sauce: a delicious homemade balsamic vinaigrette. I actually have a large 'collection' of balsamic vinegars and I like to make my own balsamic salad dressings so I can be hard to please with balsamic vinaigrettes but I can honestly say this one was outstanding! I highly recommend it! I also was happy that in addition to regular French fries they also have sweet potato fries which I got with a side of ranch = yum! My Dad ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake - can't go wrong there! He thought it was delicious! Also of note was their fresh squeezed lemonade! This was truly fresh squeezed and tasted so natural and delicious! They also serve breakfast and dinner but we were there for lunch. Even though they were busy we hardly had to wait long at all for our food (under 10 minutes - cooked fresh to order!) and the service was very nice and attentive. Some people complain in their reviews that the restrooms are for restaurant customers only but I don't think that's outrageous at all - it seems perfectly reasonable to me and probably why the restrooms here are clean and in good condition -unlike roadside rest stops. I can't see why people complain about this! Why let busloads of random tourists use the restaurants' bathroom? - it seems to me like those are the ridiculous people, not the restaurant. I highly recommend Priest Station Cafe and will for sure return the next time I'm in the area - or even not - it is worth a slight detour since there aren't many food options in this area and Priest Station Cafe is clearly the best in the area!

Breakfast was solid. If you're staying in the area or meeting up for a rafting trip this is a good place for a quick bite.

We met some friends last night for dinner at Priest Station.. The food was delicious. I had the salmon, which was cooked to perfection, accompanied by rice pilaf and roasted vegetables. A healthy salad before hand. A generous glass of white wine.. the service was spot on .. Highly recommend! Thank you staff for a pleasurable evening!! Generous portions all around...

Food and service excellent located in a beautiful setting at the top of old priest grade in Big Oak Flat on the way to Yosemite National Park.

2019: I had the savory crepes. I did not enjoy them, though I was told many people like them and order them often. They taste like they sound - they have onions, bacon (more like ham then bacon), and spinach (I think) with a cream sauce over them. People of pickier tastes should not order these. I didn't enjoy my husband's meal either: he ordered the sassy brisket. It was dry and boring. However, my husband had visited during a different trip and had the ham and brie - he said it was delicious. I will give it another try and update as needed.Feb, 2024: 5 years later, I'm finally updating this review. It took me 4 years to try Priest Cafe after that first experience. I heard the steak was pretty good, so I tried it out. I was not disappointed! They make a really good steak! It's under $40 (with tax), and it comes with a healthy (or unhealthy, depending on your point of view) side of fries, dinner salad, and a warm sourdough roll. So good! For about 5 months, I probably got that steak twice a month. Here is the sad part. I was in there one day getting a steak, and a girl, I'm not sure how she is related to the restaurant, mentioned an experience she had with another customer. She said there was a customer that would come in for food who gave them a bad review a few years back. The girl said she didn't confront the customer about it. She saw the name on the ticket, and it matched the name of the person who gave the review. She said something like, "Why would someone give a restaurant a bad review and eat there anyways?" I laughed it off, not realizing she was talking about me. I had to go out to my car, and when I got back, a few of them suddenly stopped whispering to each other.I haven't been back since. I can make a better steak at home. It's not worth being alienated. That same day, that girl yelled, "f$@k you!" to a guy who drove by yelling,"they've got cockroches!", so that restaurant appears to have quite a PR problem.Their hamburgers are boring, and their wine is expensive.I'm leaving my review at two stars. Good luck, Preist Cafe.
