Big Sur Bakery in the early morning is a hidden gem. As the doors open, there’s a peaceful stillness, with the scent of fresh bread and buttery pastries filling the air. The croissants are outstanding flaky and golden, soft on the inside. Pair one with a simple cappuccino or espresso, and you’ve got the perfect quiet start to your day. It’s quaint, cozy, and feels like a retreat from the busy world, making every moment feel special.

Tried to go here. Was told it was permanently closed b/c it burned down

Apparently this place burned down because of a kitchen fire when I went in July 2024. The owner there said they’ll reopen, and that they shut down a year ago. I’m not sure what’s happening because there are other reviews from a few months ago that show it was open and fine.

We went through the entrance right next to the self service shell. Just a warning!

Sadly, was closed when we went due to a fire

Hope it comes back. Folks let me know if it exists!

We unfortunately got stuck here on Hwy 1. , N and S both ways -due to mud slide- have been blocked today . We ended up visiting 3 different restaurants near by, and first 2 were over priced yet super busy and not sure about the attitude we received was kind enough. I really do appreciate the kindness and the good quality food & service we received from this beautiful restaurant. Not sure if I am coming back to Big Sur area again but I live in LA so I am definitely recommending this beautiful place . Please do yourself a favor and order the beet salad ! Make sure to crown your dining experience with a scrumptious dessert ? ?

Dietary restrictions: I appreciate the vegetarian and seafood dishes !! As a Mediterranean, I am not into eating bacon, sausage etc ? Need to come back for breakfast for sure !

Kid-friendliness: They offer pasta for kids, fresh squeezed OJ is yummy !!

What a fantastic bakery in the unlikeliest of places! I had two fabulous items here. The ginger scone was a complete surprise. So flavorful and baked to perfection. The ham and cheese croissant is an ideal savory breakfast. Light and crispy pastry with more generous ham and cheese than most bakeries provide. Definitely check them out if you are passing through or camping in Pfeiffer like we were.

LOVE this place!!Literally the cutest cafe on the planet. Never have had something I have not liked here. The banana Nutella streudel is the best :)I’ve been here many times over the years, and I always make a point to stop by when I’m around the peninsula. They also have great snacks (sables and trail mix!), and cool stuff from local ceramicists etc. Totally worth it to stop by :)

They don’t serve food. So the images of the menu is very misleading. All they serve are overpriced pastries. The restaurant does not actually exist.

Casual & cozy. Great for dinner and for morning pastries. Go early in the AM, gets crowded.

Friendly people (although not particularly helpful), and very good pastries, but really over priced and not very wheelchair /pram friendly.

Overpriced. Order was wrong. The cashier was telling some story to her friends about being plastered in Costa Rica. No attention was paid to us or our order. Only went here because another place was closed and this somehow had good reviews. We tossed the coffee we got and headed into town for reasonably priced coffee.

Pretty scenery and place to sit! But 2 drip coffees that had no caffeine, and 2 cold pastries was not worth $30+.
