Really good food, however the BBQ sauce wasn't my thing. It was more sour than tangy for my taste. I recommend the brisket. Price per slice is a win with the one. It doesn't matter what meat you get. They are delicious, but if you are hungry, the brisket is your bag!

I’ve eaten BBQ all over the country for 50 years and this was the WORST! I had pulled pork sandwich. Bun was so dry it crumbled. Pork was dry like eating sawdust or wood. The “vinaigrette” sauce was also TERRIBLE! I enjoy vinegar BBQ - like in the lowlands of the Carolinas but this was just awful. Don’t believe the Sunset Magazine review- it is dead wrong.

Strictly speaking, the food here is heavy and filling. The barbecue is not particularly delicious, but fortunately the overall combination is acceptable. The dessert and drink options are also quite limited and not particularly delicious. The service is pretty good, nothing to fault.

- A bit pricey - Would love more sides that fit the meats, like hot potato based sides or vegetables from the oven, rather than soup.
Portions seem to vary in size. I ordered tri tip and got a decent portion but it did leave me wanting more. Fiance got chicken and her portion was more generous.
Note that the place is called "Big Sur Smokehouse" on Google Maps but their sign by the road says "ALiLA Ventana Big Sur" or something like that.

Took a shuttle as a resort guest from the valet stand (They used the luxurious XC90 both to/from the smokehouse). While our entire meal is complimentary as we were staying at the resort, they do offer the menu items for paying guests not staying at the resort. Ordered a barista made mocha with oat milk which was quite delicious and well made.Ordered the organic green salad with brisket, half rack of ribs, collard greens as a side and bread pudding. Salad was good with fresh ingredients although nothing special. The shaved Manchego cheese was tasty though.The brisket however was quite delicious. Fatty portion was very tender although portions weren't that large. Lean portion was not dry or tough. Half rack of ribs were tasty as well especially as a departure from the usual lunch options available on-site for resort guests. Sauces were delicious.Collard green was nice as a side with authentic vinegar heavy undertones while being tender with some ham hock pieces.Bread pudding took some time to reheat and bring out but it was tasty as well.While taste was relatively good, it wasn't necessarily a great value although you don't have many food options in this part of town. This meal for paying customers would have been $70 which seemed a little high for the portions you'd be receiving. As a complimentary meal for resort guests, this is a no brainer and the food is a nice departure from the usual on-site dining options which don't change over the course of the stay.
