Amazing experience, location, views and staff (there really more like ambassadors for this unique, cool place). Our favorite place and guests love it when we take them there. Almost every seat in the place has a great view - and I mean "screen saver" great - so you'll love it. If you want a special seat on the rail looking out, try to go an hour before they open and go down to the cafe for a coffee or wine.

Went for the view and was not disappointed, we were there at sunset time and the view was perfect. I loved my veggie burger (one of the best veggie burgers out there) and my son said those were the best fry’s he has ever had… they were nice and crisp. Christian was our server and he really made us feel welcome, we definitely stayed a little longer because the service was great 😊 can’t wait to go back Big Sur and Nepenthe 👍

The vibe is just pure California in the very best sense! The location is unsurpassed. And the food is excellent! The Ambrosia Burger is a huge personal favorite. The architecture of the restaurant is design by Rowan Maiden a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Nestled into a crest that look out over the Pacific provides views are spectacular. Lots of avian wildlife is everywhere! (Townsends Warbler, Acorn Woodpeckers; etc) The drive from Monterey is one of the most scenic in the country. Plan extra time for all the vista stops! There’s a reason it’s our favorite restaurant on the coast. The overall experience is a Bohemian California delight. We’ll keep coming back as long as we’re able. Not to be missed!!

An absolute architectural masterpiece!! Views are incredible and food is great. Interiors are super nice. Not much to have for vegetarians but we tried vegetarian burger with fries as a side. Surprisingly vegetarian burger was delicious, the tomato basil soup was creamy and rich. Views are fantastic, a bit pricey but worth the experience!

This was a wonderful visit merely because of the spectacular views. The food was good, it was okay. Nothing great, nothing bad. The worst thing was the price, but OMG the views are breathtaking. Choose your seat well because the views are gorgeous. The story of how this became open to the public because the view was too good to deprive from the public says it all. The facilities were meticulously maintained inside and outside. Overall you come for the views, expect little more than a decent, overpriced menu....but oddly enough you will love it overall and become a repeat customer for every season of the year.

We arrived around 4:30pm the sun was setting at 5:25pm the back deck was packed. We were not able to get a spot to see the sunset. The view is its best asset. I checked in for a table, they told me 45 mins to an hour. We waited an hour. I checked in again ant they said there were still four people in front of me. I saw two open seats at the bar. We snagged those and the bartender was awesome. He really saved the day. He was so nice and helpful. We wanted a filet, but I couldn’t imagine eating that at the bar without the ocean view. That’s what you’re paying for after all. We ordered two burgers. They were good. If you visit for sunset arrive super early because you will be waiting for a while.
