The best vacation experience ever. My wife and I just went here on our honeymoon and despite the high price to stay here, it is 100% worth it. The experience, care, and courtesy you are treated with by each and every staff member is second to none.
Rooms: Rooms are pristine and super clean, great views from each room
Safety: Super safe area
Food and drinks: Food and drinks are stocked in the room daily

A pricey yet “worth every penny” fairytale five-star experience in an architect’s acid trip cabin art gallery that you will remember the rest of your life.
Let me start by stating we are not rich. We aren’t poor either – no kids, frugal, in our careers and late 40s. This was our destination wedding and not the first choice. We initially looked at Hawaii (even more expensive and dull besides the local), Florida (we decided NOT to give them our money and good thing because of the timing and hurricane) AND staying local for a family gathering (more expensive than Post Ranch and why spend all that to feed people we don’t even like?). I stumbled upon a SEM article about adults-only California resorts and was immediately drawn to Post Ranch Inn.
We stayed for two nights, and it ended up a 98% perfect stay. The second day we had our wedding on the cliffside. Despite metal, wood and concrete, make no mistake, these are luxury cabins ‘in the woods’ surrounded by protected forest and wildlife. We stayed in ‘Geikie(?) Fee’ Upper Pacific.
Initial impressions - Over the Top. They treated us like royalty upon arrival, sat us down and offered wine, champaign or seltzer to go over our itinerary while bell persons valet and emptied our vehicle. We were then given a tour by SUV around the property with tidbits of history and lo-cal information. We reached the room and there were no words to describe how amazing it was. Like, usually photos over-sell a product, but not in this case. Photos cannot properly portray the breathtaking view and amenities offered at the Post Ranch Inn.
The room was very clean. Portraits on the walls depicted owners and history. Blackout curtains operate via wall switch, whole-room audio provided via Sonos, room service tablet, heated soaking tub outside and an amazing panoramic view of the Pacific plus Big Sur mountains and sequoias. Real wood burning fireplace, plenty of space, and exceptionally environmentally
Everyone (except some of the pretentious guests in sun hats and elderly bumblebee print sun dresses) were so nice! Employees wishing you a good morning, good afternoon, hellos!
Special shoutout to our event coordinator Derek, who made our event more than special, our wedding officiant Soaring Starkey, and photographer Josh Rose. You always assume something will go wrong, but the entire event was flawless. The ceremony spectacular. The photos came out amazing. This is a wedding you will never forget and will not regret paying for. The location was beautiful, and everything went without a hitch just like Derek promised.
There was SO much to love about this place. My favorite part was seeing the stars above on our private patio in the soaking tub! Or the sun coming up or going down and coloring the sky like a watercolor explosion. Totally worth it.
The ONLY issue (and the wife says I’m crazy) was during checkout. The bell person came to get our things and asked if we shut all the doors. Of course I did. I’m a neat freak OCD about not leaving a big mess when I stay anywhere. It rubbed me the wrong way when he needed to come into the room and check. Like we were some teens who threw a wild party and disregarded or disrespected our room. He said it was for energy-efficiency and ‘sustainability/environmentally friendly’ were the biggest reasons we stayed here. Look, he could have just as easily waited for us to leave before double-checking and not making me feel like we did something wrong. On top of how easy it is to see the doors were closed from the entry door…
We were dropped off at guest check-in, handed our five-figure bill and promptly pushed into our vehicle. I think we could have used the ‘sit down’ and ‘here have a glass of wine or champaign’ during check out after getting that bill… For as well as they treated us throughout, it felt like check-out is more a ‘thanks, now get lost!’. My only very small complaint about the whole experie

It is worth the price. The ocean house was an incomparable experience.
Attention to EVERY detail is obvious, creating an unforgettable, luxury experience.
I reference the novel, The Hotel Nantucket. If you read it, you would understand the Post Ranch Inn, minus the ghost.

Lunch at Sierra Mar is a must. The attention to the culinary experience is exquisite. Our salads and pita/veggie starters were perfect. A light pickling to the veggies served as a perfect compliment to the cannellini bean spread and pita. Some melon gazpacho was a prefect palette cleanser before our entrees. My king salmon was a fatty unctuous slice of delicious gluttony. Our roasted lions mane mushroom was even better than the salmon. Go here. Thank yourself later.

Not a good luxury vacation option unless: 1/ you have so much dispensable money you want to spend on something; and/or 2/ have very limited time that restricts you to this area.
- Rooms: They're quaint and clean for the most part. Views are of course breathtaking and the surrounding nature and quiet is nice. They could be more attentive to details e.g., tub cleanliness.
- Service / Staff: This is where the experience falls apart. Service is extremely inconsistent from the front desk / concierge staff to the restaurant staff. Few are very kind and most are ambivalent at best. The kicker was lack of training that led to one of the hospitality staff members ignoring the Privacy sign on the door and entering the room to drop off a wine opener (I wanted to take a shower and so had explicitly canceled the request for the wine opener before hopping in + putting up the Privacy sign). This level of miscommunication / invasion of privacy is simply unacceptable especially at a property like PRI that claims to perform at the highest level of caliber. This was escalated, the front desk + hospitality manager apologized, and we got mugs (lol).
- Food: Had every single meal on the property (Sierra Mar). Breakfast was lovely but lunch and dinner pre-fixe experiences were okay. Food was mostly fine. Kitchen and hallway operations do not seem efficient, often leading to miscommunications of orders and delays (overheard table neighbors' complaints as well).
- Property: Trails are short but nice to walk on; their ocean-facing heated pools are PRI's saving grace.
Overall Value: A guest is paying at least ~$1.5K per night for this place that's not even "all-inclusive", where the rooms typically average out to ~$2-2.5K per night if not more. Meaning, PRI is promising the best of the best hospitality. At that price point and branding, your'e selling more than hot tubs with a view. Even excluding the experience of a staff member walking into my room during my shower, PRI's rather simple property, unsophisticated hospitality, and tacky culture of nickel and diming all left a bitter taste in my mouth. This place is absolutely not worth the money. There are so many other wonderful options out there at or even below this price point. I unfortunately think this is only getting the hype it has due to a lack of competition in the area. If you'd like to enjoy the view, I'd recommend just going for a meal at Sierra Mar or better yet, restaurants like Nepenthe that have the same view at a much lower cost.

PR Inn surely doesn’t need another positive review, but they consistently exceed expectations. It's an escape from the world and creates an environment to fully relax and chill. It’s always awesome to return to this amazing place. The management and team get it right every time! Thank you!

Amazing experience. Did not realize that each room is its own little treehouse or oceanfront cabin. Insane views and impeccable service. Would go back again and again.
