So amazing to find such fresh raw fish and ikura in this area in Sierra valley. All dishes were really tasty. The price is also very reasonable.

Never been scolded by a host before let alone twice before being seated. Take your business elsewhere. I’ve had better service at Mc Donald’s.

Upon entering Yamatani Japanese Restaurant our group of 6 were immediately scolded by the hostess/owner about our shoes being dusty and how we were going to get her carpet dirty. Still waiting close to 10 minutes in a seemingly empty restaurant we were scolded a second time for touching the pins on the world map. “That’s for customers to put where they’re from, you have to ask first” she hissed. We eventually were shown our seats. After sitting for a few minutes all 6 of us agreed the absolute rudeness was enough to up and leave. We didn’t place an order or order any drinks. Our group consists of 40 and 50 year olds from out of the county. Terrible service.

I am a 50 year old man and I have never been told off two times before I even sit down. The owner complained about my shoes being dusty from the desert and I shouldn't be bringing the dust into her restaurant. Then my friend put a pin in the map the shows were customers are from and the owner told him off because he did not ask first to put a pin in the map.So we left after all six of us sat down...we all could not believe how we were treated in less than three minutes.

Owner/waiter when entering scolded our group of 6 for having dusty shoes and complained about us brining dust into her restaurant. Then when a member of our group was looking at her map was then told not to touch her map with out asking. Owner was extremely rude and uninviting even with a large group.

It sucks that I'm giving this place a 1 star when I was so excited to finally try this restaurant. I come into for work often and have struggled to find food that fits my palate. I live off of Japanese food and was hoping this would be a new spot for my firm to have our group dinners since we all love Japanese food. I told them about this place and that I couldn't try it out last trip so I was going to go this time and report back. My report back will be they're rude and we should never use their services. I waited patiently in line with everyone else to be attended to. I was skipped over and not even acknowledged. I brushed it off the 1st and even the 2nd time when she sat 2 ppl without reservations who were behind me at the last spots at the sushi bar, which was where I planned to sit since I was solo. It was until I said hey what about me that I was even acknowledged. I thought about continuing to wait but was annoyed since I'd only be able to get takeout since she skipped me and gave away the last seats. It really sucks ? and kinda ruined my evening.

Loved the atmosphere! Food and service are great. We also ran into a couple of fun locals. Loved the sushi bar and the chef is really friendly.

My wife and I have been dining at this fantastic Japanese restaurant for 10+ years. The ambiance is inviting, and the menu offered is delightful. It’s family owned and Roxanne is the best. Must try when in bishop.

This is a favorite spot for us to stop when we're staying in Bishop. Great sushi and sake options. The hamachi collar is so tasty. There's also a jalapeño boat or bomb forgot the name that was so delicious. Definitely give them a try

Shocked to see anyone describe the service as "top notch."This place is a hard pass. The food is sub-par, tastes inauthentic and the service was TERRIBLE. Has the ambience and feel of a diner and the service staff comes off as miserable and disinterested. The gum-snapping, disheveled busboy comes by to refill waters and you ask for more napkins. He mutters under his breath three times, as you persistently ask him "What are you saying?""Yeah!" He finally answers intelligibly.Waiter himself...where did she get this guy? Walks up, first greeting: "Guys ready?"No intro, no suggestions, throws edamame appetizer on the table, followed immediately by wilted greens of a salad, then entrees - all at once. Our table is crowded with plates and bowls in ten minutes. He leaves all of that there the entire time until we leave. Family of four, for mediocre food....$125. Tosses the check in front of me. "Have a good one!"Talked to the manager/owner on the way out (some have mentioned her in reviews as being named "Roxanne"?)I said: "Your waiter there - he seems to be in quite a bit of a rush, huh?""What do you mean?" she answers."That guy." I pointed to him. "Mr. Turn 'em, and burn 'em, huh?""Oh yeah," she laughs. "He's like that. Sorry."No, Miss. I'm sorry I ever made the mistake of bringing my family to your establishment. What a joke. Don't go to this sad excuse of a restaurant unless you enjoy being disrespected, and then ripped off by paying for cheap food. (Attached my own photo just to authenticate I was there.)

yup 7.

we have been coming here for many years now and have to say, it's going downhill a little.first off, portions have gotten smaller, prices have got more expensive, as seen in many other restaurants. however the food is good.2nd, is the tall waiter with gray hair. our family always ordered the boat meal and do 2 substitutions out of it. the waiter said they can only do 1 substitution since the cooks said otherwise as he stated, but since we found it shocking, we asked the waiter to ask the cooks and they said yes. the next time we went, a nice blonde waitress served us. we asked for the two substitutions and she said no problem....soooo... are the cooks saying that we can't do 1 substitution or was the waiter lying to us or was lazy to put in the substitutions on the computer? think the waiter needs to do a little training on indolence.
