Loved this hand roll spot! Super fresh ingredients, warm rice, and crispy seaweed—everything hit the mark. The staff were friendly, the vibe was chill, and the rolls came out fast. Great place to grab a few bites and hang out. I’ll definitely be back!

This place exceeded my expectations and I am so excited to go back! Even though we ordered a bunch of hand rolls at once, they brought out one at a time and I wasn’t sure why that was the case at first, but the point is to eat the roll when it is still fresh before the nori gets all soggy from the hot rice. They use some of the BEST Nori and I’ve had lots of hand rolls in my life because it is one of my favorite foods (and therefore quite picky about them!) All of their appetizers were good too, and they complemented the hand rolls very well. I’m so excited to have discovered this place right by my neighborhood.

Came here with my co-workers for lunch and I’ve got to say they have an amazing lunch combo menu deal.

Food:
The hand-rolls are delicious and the fish is so fresh. The nori they use really sets them apart from the other Hand-roll restaurants that I’ve been to, super crispy.

I got the 5 hand roll lunch combo which comes with a miso soup, salad and green tea (all for only $29) I love that they only serve you one hand-roll at a time so the nori is perfectly crispy when you bite into it.

Definitely coming back again to try all their other handrolls 🤤

Service:
The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were seated immediately at the bar and it was easy to order through the tablet and the food was served quickly.

Loved the food, the service, and cozy atmosphere. Recommend for both lunch and dinner but you can get a great deal during lunch specials.Tried both regular rolls and premium rolls and they were both great. I would recommend ordering from both regular and premium menus when you visit but you will definitely appreciate the premium handrolls. Uni Ikura toro is my personal favorite! Sweet shrimp and A5 Wagyu were also delicious. But you can’t leave the restaurant without ordering Hokkaido milk soft serve. It tastes exactly same as the super milky soft serves I tried in Japan. Sometimes I want to stop by just for the soft serve!! It’s that good! Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely comeback!

I love this place, they have the best handrolls in the area. I will definitely recommend to other to try out all there menu. The Kushiyaki BBQ is also very good, I ordered Prime beef, A5 Wagyu, pork belly, and beef tongue all tasted very flavorful. To top it off there Hokkaido soft serve ice cream is the best I ever had.

High quality fresh food with wide variety of choices from hand rolls, kushiyaki, drinks, and desserts.

One of the rarest places to serve kushiyaki grilled with binchotan (white charcoal). Hokkaido ice cream imported from Japan and rare Suntory draft beer.

This spot is a gem and the value for high quality fresh food is amazing!

We were excited to try Origami and to our surprise the server was Ina rush to take our order. There was a mistake on the order and instead of just apologizing and change the dish to what we've originally ordered she tried to confront me as if I was lying and changed my mind. She became rude almost throwing the plate in front of us, not placing plates in front of my guest but rather far from them. She was acting as if she was a rude customer and us workers.
Customer service isn't for her (Yong lady with glasses). She needs to understand that even if the customer made a mistake she has to kindly accept that she has to change the dish In a kind manner.

Now when it comes to the food, the uni pasta was served cold. Most dishes we had were poor quality.

My advice as someone who's been in the luxury hospitality for over 15 years.
Owner/ manager needs to retrain staff on manners and handling guests and food quality will need to be improved. Prices are high I understand but food quality needs to match the price otherwise your clients will see it as a money grab.

As someone who eats out frequently and considers Japanese cuisine my absolute favorite, I’m pretty particular when it comes to quality. I grew up in Japan, visit often, and have tried just about every notable izakaya, sushi spot, and Japanese restaurant across Orange County—and many in LA. So when a friend recommended Origami Hand Roll and Kushiyaki Bar, I was definitely intrigued by the unique concept: hand rolls as the main feature alongside kushiyaki (grilled skewers).

I visited with my best friend and, as I do with new restaurants, we ordered a wide variety of dishes to get a real sense of the menu. The first bite I had was the salmon skin hand roll, and it completely caught me off guard—in the best way. Crispy skin, perfectly textured rice, and nori that stayed crisp without sticking to your tongue (a detail that can really affect the overall experience). It was a clear sign this place takes their hand rolls seriously.

From there, each hand roll was delivered one at a time on a custom stand, rolled right in front of us, and we were encouraged to eat them immediately. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. The sweet shrimp had a natural sweetness and snappy texture that confirmed its quality. The uni, toro, and ikura combo was something new to me—and honestly, mind-blowing. The flavors worked beautifully together and it made for a great photo too!

As for the kushiyaki, each skewer was grilled to perfection—juicy, tender, and marinated just right. It instantly reminded me of the taste of Kyoto when I visited two years ago.

Overall, this place is a gem. I couldn’t find a single thing I didn’t like. I haven’t enjoyed Japanese food this much in a long time, and I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. Highly recommend.

Almost forgot. Make sure you try their soft serve. It’s the best you’ll have here in socal
