Disappointing Shaved Ice Despite the Hype
This place was packed, so they must be doing something right. However, when it comes to the shaved ice itself, I was disappointed. The almond flavor lacked depth, and even with the condensed milk, it didn’t quite hit the spot. We stopped by while visiting L.A., hoping to satisfy our cravings, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the place for us. The atmosphere was friendly, and the crowd showed its popularity, but the taste didn’t live up to expectations. Not something I’d return for or recommend.

My niece and nephews introduced me to Sul & Beans, and it’s now one of my favorite dessert spots! They specialize in Korean shaved ice (bingsu), and every flavor I’ve tried has been amazing.
The menu has a great variety, from traditional red bean to modern favorites like mango and green tea. The shaved ice is incredibly soft and fluffy, and the toppings are always fresh and perfectly paired.

You’re essentially buying an overpriced bowl of ice drenched in sugary syrup, topped with aesthetically pleasing garnishes meant to distract you from the fact that it’s just a bowl of ice. The toppings-to-ice ratio was completely off—once you finish the outer layer, you’re left with plain ice in the middle.
The only saving grace was the Taiyaki. The matcha and Nutella Taiyakis were good, but I’ve had toastable ones that taste just as good.

Whenever I'm in the area, I always have to stop here for bingsoo. I had bingsoo at other places, but Sul & Beans is one of the tops on my list. I especially like this location even though it is not the most spacious. The atmosphere here is really cozy.
It was my friend first time here and they really enjoyed it too! The bingsoo was refreshing after a hearty meal. What we ordered:
Strawberry and cheesecake bingsoo (5/5): it was creamy. There was a sweet and sour balance between the condensed milk, shaved ice, and fruits.
Bungeo-ppang (4/5): They were warm, soft, and crispy. The custard filling was good, not too sweet. I find the sesame filling a little smoky like burnt and bitter. It's great if you do not like overly sweet desserts.
Personal recommendations: bingsoo - yogurt berry, earl grey, and strawberry cheesecake.
