Such a beautiful space and view! We had the dine LA menu which was a great value for $65. Can't wait to go back!
Sent back food, undercooked. Service was terrible, could not find the waitress for most of our dinner. We were forced to put in our orders immediately to avoid any mistakes and or delays in our food.
Had a nice lunch but they were understaffed. It took a long time to order, get a refill on water. Server was nice but unfortunately the customer pays the price of subpar service.
Slow service food arrived hour and half later! Despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't busy
Castaway is in a scenic location, on top of a hill overlooking Burbank. The restaurant definitely gives the upscale vibes of a hotel/resort, so expect to pay those upscale prices. We decided to visit Castaway for our anniversary dinner, which luckily occurred during LA DINE's Restaurant Week, so we were able to sample the food and drink at a discount: two apps, two entrees, two desserts, with tip = $212. Not bad. The restaurant is large, with lots of tables for various party sizes. Wines start at $16, promoted mixed drinks range from $22-$25. The portions for appetizers and entrees is on the larger side (you won't leave the restaurant hungry). We recommend the crispy Brussel sprouts ($20) with Thai Chili Tamarind Glaze, Young Coconut, Mint, Thai Basil; the Organic Roasted Half-Chicken ($39) with Truffle Creamed Corn, Honey Roasted Root Vegetables; Cabernet-Braised Short Ribs ($48) with Port Wine Roasted Mushrooms, Truffle Creamed Corn, Thumbelina Carrots, Sautéed Spinach. Great for anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions. Parking is VALET ONLY and is $11, plus tip.
I chose Castaway to celebrate my birthday because I've always enjoyed it and was excited to try some of the newer menu changes. We started with appetizers and drinks, which were perfect. The wagyu on the salt rock was delicious, and the tomahawk was served warm and enjoyable. My daughter's salt sirloin steak was absolute perfection with a great crispy sear and full of flavor. Unfortunately, my miso butterfish and the mac and cheese arrived cold, which was disappointing, especially for a birthday dinner I was really looking forward to. By the time our waiter came back to check on us, the rest of our party was already finishing their meals. He was very apologetic and did send out a fresh mac and cheese, which I tried one bite of and it was creamy, hot, and delicious, nothing like the first one. A new butterfish was also sent, but by then we were ready to head home and ended up taking it to go. Reheating it the next day just wasn't the same. I only mention this because Castaway is a place I regularly recommend to clients, tourists, and visitors, and I truly wanted this to be a special birthday experience. The service was kind and the food quality is clearly there, but the timing and temperature issues took away from what should have been a great celebration. I'mjust hoping for better execution next time.
This restaurant used to be a true Los Angeles landmark and a great place to spend time in Burbank, known for its fine dining and enjoyable atmosphere. Unfortunately, those days are clearly over. I arrived early to check in and informed the front desk that the rest of my party, including small children, would arrive shortly. I was told we could not be seated until everyone arrived. While inconvenient, we understood the rule and waited patiently. When the rest of our group arrived, instead of seating us, we were told to wait even longer because the table still needed to be set up. At that point, we asked to speak with the manager. He was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Only after they realized we were clearly upset did they suddenly take action and seat us. This response felt forced and insincere, not genuine customer care. To make matters worse, the food was inconsistent and did not match the reputation, history, or pricing of this establishment. Sadly, what was once a respected Los Angeles landmark has lost its standards. I would not recommend this restaurant anymore.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant every Christmas Day for the past four years, and it has always been a tradition my family truly looked forward to. Unfortunately, this year’s experience was very disappointing and not reflective of the care or hospitality we’ve received in the past. We had an 8:45 pm reservation, which the restaurant accepted, yet from the moment we were seated, we felt rushed. Courses felt hurried, and the overall atmosphere made it clear that staff were eager to close rather than allow us to enjoy our meal—despite the reservation time being offered by the restaurant itself. If guests are not meant to dine comfortably at that hour, those reservations simply shouldn’t be made. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was an interaction with the manager. The manager, who was wearing a maroon sweater, came to our table and removed a spare menu that had been placed on an empty chair—without asking or saying a word. While it may seem like a small action, it came across as dismissive and unprofessional, especially given the already rushed feeling of the evening. After four years of loyalty and choosing to spend our Christmas here, this experience was upsetting. We understand it’s a long and busy holiday for staff, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of guests feeling unwelcome or rushed. I hope management takes this feedback seriously so future guests—and loyal ones—can enjoy the experience that originally kept us coming back.
Was just here for a birthday celebration. It’s certainly a unique location hovering in the hills above Burbank.Thw atmosphere was festive, and the staff is excellent. In many years of living in the area, this was my first experience. I’ve heard from others that the food used to be better. For me, it was good, but not great. I had a halibut with a tomato risotto. The halibut was a bit dry and lacked character. The risotto was on the mushy side. I’m pretty certain arborio wasn’t used. We started with an undistinguished iceberg lettuce salad. I must mention that this was a party with three entrée options. I can’t compare it with the regular dinner menu. It was a nice place, so I’d be willing to try it another time, probably earlier in the day when we might better appreciate the formidable view.
