Delicious coffee and breakfast menu! Definitely my new go-to brunch spot in Burlingame. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the interior design and the two-story layout. There’s something about the atmosphere that makes me feel very relaxed sitting upstairs with a cup of coffee. Also, it is a no technology zone but I still see people with their laptops so I don’t think they’re very strict about it.

Excellent breakfast sandwich, very relaxing atmosphere and lovely location!

Highly prefer this location over their San Mateo one. It's great to be able to sit down on the upper floor and enjoy my food.

Got the breakfast sandwich (along with a cup of joe) and it's really good. Great way the start the day.

Service was fairly quick. There was a line, but it moved really quickly.

Much more spacious than the San Mateo location. Lots to pick from and you really can’t go wrong.

The food is decent, but it’s overpriced for the portion and quality you receive.

There are plenty of seats and it's very clean. The croissants of all flavors are good, but the scones are dry and have no cream.

Love the breads in Europe and luckily Backhaus has saved me trips to Europe. This artisan european bakery has products with the highest quality. Backhaus breads and baguettes easily beat the Michelin star bakery in Yountville. My favorite is the olive loaf. Try it with some high quality olive oil and early girl tomatoes and you are in heaven. They make everything in house with highest quality ingredients, including the flour which they now use their stone mill and sell it in separate bags. The price is higher but for the quality you get, it's a great deal. The shelves by the entry on the left, could be made more appealing as this is the first thing you see when you enter the bakery. Often times many of the shelves are empty and not populated. 2nd floor is great seating but the walls are a bit bare. Would be nice to have a few photos of breads or bread making to make it a bit more engaging. These are missed opportunities but what a great place and addition to peninsula right in Burlingame. Employees are super friendly too and make you feel at home.

The vibes were good, the food was NOT. Literally any other place in Burlingame has better brunch options than Backhaus.

Sourdough is great! So far most things we have tried are yummy! It's busy on the weekends but service is fast. Street parking on either sides of the road. They have some seating upstairs for dining in

When I arrived at the store around 9:15 in the morning, it was nearly full and crowded. The interior design is that of an internet celebrity store. The breads on the shelves are all tempting. The tableware is from the small independent brand Sarah Kersten. The overall design is clean and fresh, and the food is of high quality. very good!

For years, I’ve always been looking for spots to wait while picking up or dropping off family and coworkers at SFO. There is sometimes a lot of time to kill when waiting for someone to get through customs. Blue Bottle in San Mateo was my go-to for a long time. That is until I discovered Backhaus in Burlingame.

Backhaus has a very active kitchen and bakery in a beautiful two story loft space. Their pastries and bread are top notch. I’d even say that some of their pastries are on the level of Tartine and Alexander’s Pattiserie.

The parking can sometimes be a bit tricky to find, especially on the weekend. The one thing that frustrates me about this place is their tiny windows of time where you can order their breakfast menu. It’s only from Wednesday through the weekend and they have a strict cutoff time. Their savory pastries are excellent, but it’s still something I wish I could order throughout the day.

Parking: Parking in the area can be a little challenging, especially on weekends.
