Great pastries and food. We noticed that there was a long line for this bakery and decided to come in for breakfast early. We tried a few pastries, thr breakfast sandwich, cuppacino, and orange juice. Excellent taste and quality. I strongly recommend the strawberry and pistachio croissant and mini chocolate soughdough bread! Place is pricey, but the taste meets the premium.

Way less crowded than its San Mateo location
We arrived around 10, the line was out the shop and moved quickly. Tried the Hazelnut Chocolate croissant and the Scallion Egg. The chocolate was too sweet. For the other, scallions overpowered so brushed some off. Would come back to try diff pastries.
Where do I even begin with this experience?
From the moment I walked in, the cashier was super friendly and helpful with my order, which set the tone right away.
We got the breakfast sandwich and the peach French toast, and both were amazing. The sandwich came on a poppy brioche that was pillowy soft inside with a perfectly delicate crunch on the outside. The sausage patty had just the right amount of spice and wasn’t greasy, and the runny egg pulled everything together.
The peach French toast was just as good. The bread was crunchy on the outside but soft inside, topped with a sweet and salty cream. The mix of fresh peach slices and gently cooked peaches made it even better.
We also grabbed a croissant, which honestly might be the best I’ve ever had, even compared to ones I’ve tried in France. For a drink, I had the espresso tonic with a touch of sweetness and a slice of orange peel, and it was the perfect companion.
Can’t recommend this place enough.

Great pastries, coffee and breakfast sandwich.
Really frustrated with Burlingame location. Can't get a hold of them over the phone. The phone number is not correct. They have a pastry that I really love, but it sells out really quickly, so I like to call before I drive 30 minutes to pick it up. It would be really wonderful if you guys had to work in phone number that customers could call like the San Mateo location has. The number on your website does not work.

Backhaus has always been my favourite bakery in the Bay Area. The seasonal tomato danish Tomato Girl is so exceptional I came back the next morning to get it two days in a row! Only this time my husband and I each had to get our own so we don’t start a fight.

Great coffee and food. It can get very busy on the weekends and usually has a huge line.

I love this place. The bakery items and pastries are superior however, when you walk in on a peaceful early morning, NO ONE wants to hear blaring loud music. Tone it down and make the environment match your product. It's not a nightclub!

I absolutely love this coffee shop! Their cardamom latte is one of my favorites and their pastry selection is always great. The line tends to be pretty long on the weekends but definitely worth the wait. The staff is always very kind.

Really great bakery that started in San Mateo and opened a second spot in Burlingame - same great food - amazing baked goods - love all the various baked cooks from croissants to pain aux chocolate to the various breads (I love the Country Loaf); same great drinks (coffees and teas) - have not tried all their new sandwiches and meals - I hear they are very good. The ambiance is much nicer than San Mateo - a lot more space that includes eat-in seating (San Mateo is really take out only). The people there are very nice and helpful. Only challenge, mainly on the weekends, is they are still just so busy even with high staffing - just great food so people willing to wait a long time.
