Fun dining experience. Delicious and tasty food. It was nice to try different types of cuts of meat and fish. Great variety.
We made a last-minute, late-night reservation through Google via OpenTable and arrived around 11 p.m. Despite the late hour, the place was still buzzing with activity. We were seated quickly, and the ambiance struck the perfect balance—elegantly dim with clear glass dividers between tables, creating a great setting for drinks and conversation. The service was excellent, and we'll definitely be coming back with friends. This place is highly recommended.
Lovely place with sunken private glass booths. It's mainly "things burnt on a stick." The way to do it is have your fill of protein, then flip the menu to finish with carbs like ramen or yaki-onigiri. The only disappointment was the shochu flight. The kitchen chose sweet, boring bottles. You're better off just ordering small bottles of good potato shochu.
Skewers are very good. Customer service is great. It's a bit dark inside but it's a fun experience.
one funky meal. service was great..but food felt like teenagers were back there microwaving meatballs, bacon and chicken tenders in the kitchen
I had a party of 10 and the staff was very accommodating. We were treated like kings! The food was incredible, and we had a great time. These were friends from out of town and they were really impressed. Thank you!
I LOVE Mokutanya. I'm not one to leave reviews, but I've been going here for four years now ever since I started college. Every friend I've brought here loves the place. We now make it a tradition to come here every month, if not more sometimes. Despite having to drive ~40 mins from Stanford campus, we do it for Mokutanya all the time. The food is splendid, mouth watering, flavorful, and all the things you didn't know you needed. Shoutout to Gary for bringing the absolute BEST. Please give the man a raise for his kindness, hospitality, and setting the environment to be so welcoming every time we return.
My family and I came here to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. I was looking forward to showing them a good yakitori spot. The pacing of the food was decent. I didn't think too much of it because I figured they must have been busy in the main room. However they didn't give us our bowl of rice until we asked in the middle of our meal. And at the end, we had to ask for our last skewer, to which the waitress told us we had all of our dishes. Luckily, she brought back the menu we filled out, which is when I'm assuming she noticed that she didn't send that order to the kitchen. She told us that our last skewer was actually on the grill and would be out in 5 mins. What a lie that was because we waited soo long just for our last skewer. We wanted to order more food, but did not think the wait would be worth it — we'd rather leave hungry. My parents rarely go out to eat, so I'm really disappointed that I couldn't show my them a good time tonight. If this reservation were just for me and my partner, we would have definitely been more vocal about our terrible service. We didn't want to cause any more stress on my parents for the night. What a sad birthday night for my mom! The automatic gratuity was definitely not deserved. I won't be coming back here. There's a yakitori spot closer to home with food that is just as good, and even better service.
This restaurant is close to SFO and opens late. That was the reason we chose to go there after our delayed flight arrived at SFO around 9pm. Service was very slow. Food was very average. Most items were overcooked and lukewarm upon arrival at our table. For the price we paid I expected better food quality and service. I would rather go to a fast food restaurant and save money the next time I arrive late at SFO.
Food is Bland now it used to be good, years ago. Don't know what happened but there's no flavor in their Yakitori order Tapas dishes. It was very disappointed with the taste. Guess I won't be coming back anymore.

Made reservation for 7:15 and was seated at 8. It took awhile to get our order started and the attentiveness of the service wasn't great. We had to ask for our check multiple times and they charged us incorrectly. The cleanliness of the seating area was disappointing with food scrapes on the floor. Last time we'll be going here.
Excellent experience, food & service. Highly recommend, I know well definitely return
New chef? One chef? Who knows. But while the waitstaff were as exuberant and accommodating as ever, it took forever to get our food and when the yakitori did arrive, almost every stick was overcooked.
Great ambience, good, and service! The skewered are great quality and cooked to great consistency. The negima with wasabi and spicy wagyu were my favorites
Great success ????????????
