The food was good. The service was sub par. Nobody smiled. When we 3 walked into the front lobby, we were not greeted. The woman just talked on the phone and didn't acknowledge us. Another woman came by the desk, and also didn't smile or acknowledge. We had a reservation and it took 10 minutes for someone to look at us, and we were the only people there! I can't stand rude service. The food was served without a smile. It felt like we were bothering them. No thanks.

this is one of our go to place in Burlingame the past 6-7 years.. a lot of my son's birthday, milestone.. we come here... and he always requests this place.. and we love yakitori - so far, we tried a lot of yakitori places in Burlingame, SF (downtown) - nothing beats this so far... their marinate - their secret spicy sauce...

It was such a delightful experience in this restaurant especially if it's your first time. Food was great and price are all reasonable. Definitely will recommend to friends... we love it.

We've tried several yakitori, we just went to a popular yakitori place in New York, Mokutanya definitely is the best! The chicken skin was done perfectly, crispy and tasty, the wagyu beef was very tender and the chicken thigh with yuzu honey glaze was delicious! I will be back many times!

Not very impressed by the food, service, or ambiance. Food was forgotten; there were errors on the bill. Service was slow, including being greeted to be seated. Food was expensive for the quality. Would not dine there again.

The food is legit. Pretty Japanese style with reasonable price. Just store is too dark, and the lot might be hard for parking

First time here. The food was delicious, though a bit too salty for my taste. Unfortunately, the wait for food was very long, and I was given an unwashed cup with lipstick stains from the previous customer. I could tell the servers were working extremely hard, but they seemed understaffed. With more support for the team, the service could be much better.

We love Mokutanya and had another great back to school celebration. The food was delicious and our service was outstanding. We are always treated beautifully and the food is consistent and never disappoints.

Really enjoyed our meal. We are of an older set with knee issues and were able to sit at the one regular table they had there. The wait staff was wonderful in answering our questions. The space is beautiful. The floor seating is in booths that have glass walls. There is a "slit" in a wall where you can see food being cooked and the smoke coming off of it. It looked like an art installation piece. There was a wonderful choice of skewers. We will definitely be returning.

Solid izakaya. Mokutanya occupies the corner of a strip mall not far from the SFO airport. It has a classic Japanese feel including needing to take your shoes off before being seated.

The menu has plenty of skewers for individual order, a few shared dishes, and plenty of drink options as well. The prices are fair but a bit higher than I've seen at other izakaya places. The portions were in line with my experiences and the quality was solid. I really enjoyed the Hamachi Carpaccio but think you can skip the sweet Wagyu Beef. Otherwise, don't forget to mix in some veggies with your proteins!

Chicken thigh was bad, it was overcooked and the flavors were weird. Skewers were overpriced! The whole menu is priced *per skewer*?? Each skewer is $3-12?! If each chicken skewer is $9 it better taste magical (it didn’t). Service was also very slow, they forgot some special requests made when ordering due to dietary restrictions, although they said it could be accommodated. There are better yakitori places for better prices in the area. It is way too dark in the restaurant, I could barely read the menu. And they make you take your shoes off but I could feel crumbs on the floor through my socks.
