Had a hunkering for the 'real stuff' - nothing like it in the East Bay. Dropped by the Burlingame location for dinner, no reservations but short wait time. Started with fresh starter salad, split an excellent Knish, then had the Pastrami sandwich. Still excellent - the real NY taste, very good rye, don't think anyone in the City can compete. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie for Dessert was the perfect ending. Menu still very diverse - tempting to try everything.... Efficient service, very good value considering what had happened to restaurant prices.
Max's of Burlingame, located in front of Holiday Inn Express San Francisco-Airport South Burlingame, was the one restaurant in the area. It offered moderate dishes at reasonable price. It featured a typical dining area and bar area. Some dishes could take a while while its soup could come instantly.

Clearly underrated but delivers really good sandwiches, soups and more. My combo pastrami/corned been was very lean, moist, flavorful and soft. I'd go back again.
Had to wait 38 min for our food after ordering it immediately when we sat down. The restaurant was not busy and we placed order with bartender, sat in bar area. No one greeted us. When I went to the kitchen to ask where’s our food they said it was coming. In 5 min it arrived cold! They warmed it & have me the wrong order!! A couple of men sat next to us after we were waiting & got their food in 10 minutes! Was it because we were 2 ladies?? The waiter was at another table talking to them about how he spoke Tagalog!! I can see why the restaurant was empty at the dinner hour!! Don’t recommend. Will never go again!! We left & didn’t eat nor did we pay for the meal!! The manager said fine, no apology!!!!
As always, the food was great, with huge portions. The pastrami Ruben was sooo delish. Nachos were too big for my buddy to finish. The salmon my other buddy ate was wolfed down in10 minutes. Had a live little jazz band going in the bar area. Was perfect
Great customer service, great atmosphere and great food

It's been years since I have last eaten here. I found the decor to be dated, neerd to be painted inside and updated. There was only 1 handicapped parking place. The Chinese chicken salad that I remembered was not as good as I remembered. It was disappointing.
Stopped in for lunch while staying at the Hyatt down the street for a work event. The BBQ sliders were flavorful but a bit on the dry side, still enjoyable with a nice smoky taste. Service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was comfortable enough to unwind before heading back to work.
It’s a short, walkable distance from the hotel, which makes it a great option for lunch, dinner, or even breakfast—if I’m up that early. Solid food, good service, and a convenient spot worth returning to.

Satisfying rustic atmosphere. Pleasant and friendly service by the dining crew ( she was alone!) efficient service nonetheless! I had the Angus 8oz burger and added cheese and an extra 8 oz patty, medium rare, delicious! The pickle was nicely salty and balanced out the double patty i ate.
