What a mind-boggling experience. My friend told me this was the best sushi anywhere.
When I walked in, I thought we couldn't be in the right place. Really small, seats maybe 10 people at the most.
But the sushi suits not disappoint. Truly the best sushi I've ever had. You don't need any soy sauce or anything more than how each tasting is done and set in front of you. Trust the experience the chef prepares for you.
Yes as the other reviews mention, I hope you are not trying to budget the meal because it's expensive.
I presume that the sushi is a good or better than the best in Japan, so it's worth it.
Can't wait to share this place with my daughter's.

You do not come here for the atmosphere because it's quite disappointing. You come here for the amazing interaction with the chef and knowledge of what he serves. Hands down the best sushi I have had. Not because he had the different toro options but because he had fish you may neva have heard of or knew you wanted to taste. Yes yes, this will be an expensive meal but I guarantee it's an experience you have never had. He sauces and seasons all the dishes so there is no soy sauce needed. Wasabi & ginger is given to you. They have a $10 corkage fee.

I don't eat mackerel or salmon but I ain't his mackerel with pleasure and the trout was better than salmon any day. The red clam was even better than the giant clam. Medium fatty toro was sooo good! Kanpachi makes me happy! Kelp halibut was unique.

I highly recommend this joint if you are a true sushi lover. He can have the chef make you what he wants or you can order off the menu. We did both and we were dancing in our bar stool.

Reservations only and can take awhile to get. Worth the wait, I promise!

Was so consumed by the food that I didn't take any other pics. I regret that now. Guess, I will have to go back. 😄

A hidden gem I heard about online just days before flying out west. It was the most expensive single meal I've ever purchased for myself-- and it was worth every penny. Incredibly friendly people who went above and beyond to give me the chance to experience their amazing omakase. I have no doubt this will be the best sushi I ever eat in my life. Do not miss it.

Delicious sushi and great service, I will definitely be coming here more often. The chef really knows what he is doing, and I wish this place will be around for a long time. The fish tasted very fresh and the chef wants you to have a good experience and so do the other customers in there.

The place is a hole in the wall, bit remember that those are the best. More emphasis on the food quality than the look of the restaurant.

The most absurdly expensive sushi of your life. It's good, but not even close to proportional to price.

I have been to this place a number of times and it never fails to deliver the best sushi in Los Angeles. Don’t be fooled by the aesthetic of this place, it is exact opposite of the food. A unique experience that I would recommend to anyone.

Very special place. They are very passionate about finding the best fish in the world. Tried some very rare and special cuts of fish that you don’t see at sushi park, sasabune etc. Very expensive.

Wow, what an unbelievable experience. Food is fantastic and because it's a reservation only kind of experience, the chef and staff are basically focused on your food and experience.

Well.. I’m rating this place from about 27-30 years ago when there was a Nihon market in the front and just a small sushi bar in the very back with about 7-10 stools total and I wonder if it’s the same chefs from those days… probably not since that sushi was amazing and did not cost an outrageous amount. Our Friend Toyota who was a sushi chef from Japan and worked for 4 decades at Something’s Fishy told us about this place where he went for his sushi on his days off.. it was absolutely fresh, great choices and chefs knew what they were doing and they were Nihonge.. Toyota told me and my brother about this secret find since I lived in Japan for a number of years 40 years ago.. and liked to speak Nihongo w the chefs so I don’t lose my second language… But according to the reviews I read here.. it’s like REALLY pricey and maybe the market is gone?!I had moved away decades ago and have been back to care for my folks since lockdown first happened. I was looking for a local market to buy authentic groceries like shizo leaves and mushrooms for my sukiyaki and remembered the nice little market in the front but it looks like it’s turned into a niche place and very unaffordable place for me.. as well as many people and as I love love love authentic Nihon food and fresh! I found a beautiful authentic sushi restaurant w the chef who is from Japan and is third generation sushi chef trained by his father and grandfather but this is in my neighborhood that we moved to decades ago and it’s in Nevada City, Ca on the way to Tahoe in the forest. He actually drives to SF three times a week to pick up fresh and sustainable fish that he hand picks and most of it is from Japan. But his prices are nothing like these.. very affordable for what quality you get.. and from an amazing authentic Japanese third generation chef that learned in Japan and the restaurant is aesthetically beautiful, even has an authentic Japanese toilet in the bathroom w warming seat, all kinds of controls, etc and set inside the beautiful Sierra forest —too bad they must charge so much for awesome sushi..I think this sort of place shouldn’t have to charge so much for such great sushi and a truly authentic experience and even if it’s flown in from Japan…Rue and his place up North makes it happen and folks from San Francisco who are sushi snobs drive the 2.5-3 hours up the mountain just to go to his place… and it’s affordable.

A delightful omakase!!!!!!

Truly an incredible experience. The chef told us that fresh fish is flown in from Japan three times a week and the quality shows why. Omakase is a must have and you’ll be presented with some of the most beautiful dishes you can imagine: the tuna quartet was unbelievable and the baby shrimp was some of the best I’ve had. The price is no joke ($250 pp if you drink) but if you’re looking for the best LA has to offer by way of sushi, this is worth it. Along with Brothers in Woodland Hills, this is the best sushi I’ve had in the US.
