Really enjoyed this place. The food was OK - nothing notable as pub food often is. The atmosphere, décor, and cliental were great. Drinks were delivered quickly despite the crowd. Bar tender and staff were great (friendly and responsive).

I had a great burger. There are plenty of screens to watch games and a pool table.

I enjoy this pub, as best as you can get to being back in the UK while in SantaCruz. Good crowd of people friendly and never any problems. Well recommended if you can. Never ever had a problem with a bill as others have mentioned, the exact opposite! They are liberal with shots and I have had some great nights here
My husband and I had a very nice dinner here. Sat outside, had a nice view. Small patio with heaters, lots of people enjoying themselves.
One of several popular bars/eateries on Esplanade St. Most with seating on balcony overlooking beach and ocean.
Great place to grab a some drinks and play a few rounds of pool. Lorenzo always interacts with everyone who walks through the door, he's awesome:)
We went in for lunch in April 2015. Be aware they might pad your bill.We ordered 1 fish and chips, 1 bread bowl of chowder,2 sodas. When the waitress came to tell us that they were out of bread bowls,i said just bring it in a regular bowl. She did just that, but when we got the bill she was charging us for the bread bowl which was $9.95,without the bread bowl it was $6.95. I asked her to changed the bill to reflect that, when she came back we paid and left.We were dumb not to double check the bill,as she charged for the chowder at $6.95,but slipped in a salad at $5.95. We were unsuspecting tourist, and got screwed. We will always check the bill from now on,as we all know money is precious. The waitress her self was very ditzy acting, suspicious? The food itself was way below average and the chowder was very runny with no clams or potatoes hardly at all.The place is also very dirty once you get in there and look around. I think that it should be shut down as a restaurant. Probably good for the bar scene only. Never going back!!
We were hungry so decided to stop in and the place was empty around the 4/4:30 time. The waitress was super sweet and helpful. We sat by the window for ocean viewing. We ordered bacon fries, chicken tacos, chicken cheddar burger with and without the ciabatta bun along with a cheese burger. The waitress spoke very highly of the tacos but both guys said they weren't too bad. Seasoned with enough spice to give it taste. The burgers came with melted cheese all around and it included nice fresh pieces of lettuce and onion. They were really tasty so recommend their burgers. The ambience picked up some as the time went by. You can shoot pool, sit at the bar and watch sports, play music off the "juke box". It got loud as we were right under the speakers and they had no problem turning it down some. Overall a very relaxing time. We would be back as we enjoy to eat off the beach paths
We stopped here while staying in Capitola. We sat out on the back patio with a great view of the beach. I had the crab cake benedict which was quite delightful...supposed to be topped with mushrooms but had those on the side..that was a smart choice. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise was very tasty. The husband had Texas french toast and he said it was good also. Reasonable prices and good food. This is a good choice.

I can't speak to the food (since I've never eaten here) but I can say that I've visited Capitola several times in the last year or so and I've never had a bad experience here, from staff or other customers. In fact, I find this place one of the friendliest, most laid-back establishments in the Village. Drink are priced at what you would expect at a bar (or even below what most bars charge) and the staff is always courteous and prompt... If you go on a weekend (Fri-Sat) the crowd can be raucous but it's always in good fun. It does tend to be more of a local hangout with a smattering of tourists during the season, but I can honestly say I've had the most fun with locals who are always willing to strike up a conversation, and buy you a drink or two :-) Next time I'm in town I will definitely try out the menu.
Right on the water in Capitola, nothing special to look at but it's great that you can look out the back windows into the bay.
I bought a bartender who was not working a shot along with myself. I had 4-5 beers throughout our stay. When I went to pay I had 6 shots and 13 beers on my tab. My friends had their own bill. I went to get each beer myself. The owner was behind the bar and when I complained he became arrogant and it went downhill from there. I will never step foot in that bar again and will be sure and let people know what a shady place it is and what a crook the owner is.
I usually don't respond to other reviews but I have to... Anyone saying the beach boardwalk in santa cruz is better then bay bar in Capitola doesnt go to the boardwalk much.. Ok to my review: The bay bar is a bar with good pub food. I have been here a few times while in Capitola and I have had some of the best times playing pool and having a good beer/drink while watching the game.. Or at night listing to the music people choose on the juke box and having a drink. I would recommend anyone to go here for a more party atmosphere. If you want a quite place to have a glass of wine then it probably isn't the place for you on the weekend nights.
I love Bay Bar in Capitola, it is laid back, safe and fun atmosphere. Drinks are strong and good and bar keeps are inviting and friendly.
