Wonderful intimate bar vibe. Fantastic food, we had an amazing citrus salad with fresh seasonal fruit and some traditional beef tacos… wonderful. Cocktails were delightful, we really enjoyed the elderflower tonic and the guava Paloma.

Best late night spot in Carmel. They have late night food and a full bar. The bartenders know their stuff and have great cocktail options. The mezcal margarita is probably the best mezcal drink I’ve had but there is a sweet and spicy note. It turns into a little dance club at night too.

I mark "food" as high but we only had drinks. We went for before-dinner each time during our visit to Carmel. It is a mixology like place. The drinks are excellent and the bar can make pretty much anything. The service was quick and friendly which I like since so many bars are slow. I would definitely return. Note that it is tucked away and not so easy to find.

Okay little spot, not much late night in Carmel overall. Was there on Sunday night (Monday holiday) there was no more than 20 people. DJ was playing the music extra loud unnecessarily - word of advice, when it's not packed, there's not need to play music that loud, sometimes people like to have conversations with someone sitting right next to them.

This place is small but everyone's dancing wall to wall no lie I was amazed and the DJ is spinning bacc to bacc records the crowd loves until it's time to go you gotta see it to believe it!!!!

Lexie was incredible and offered great suggestions for us to enjoy. I strongly recommend the Happy Hour Barmel Sliders, as well as, the pork belly! Absolutely delicious, great outdoor seating. Lexie's timing and service was wonderful and delightful. We will be back!

Fun unpretentious bar in Carmel? Yes! We didn't eat here, but the bar menu looks great and the place smelled good. The drink menu was really ample, something for everyone. Their craft cocktails is what most ppl were here for and they were interesting and tasty. I was very happy to find blue Chimay. The service was friendly and quick. We should have stayed longer.
Wow, this place has really changed. Now, instead of being a unique place to go in Carmel to get away from the expensive and supposedly prestigious establishment, now Barnes is trying to become that. Instead of being a fun dive bar (rare in Carmel), they are trying to be like everyone else, focusing on a full dining experience and featuring much more expensive drinks. This is sad to see. My guess is they must be under new management. While I can appreciate that such a decision is complex and may be due to many inputs, from a customer perspective, I think this change is a mistake. I will have to remove Barmel from my local recommendations to friends and family visiting town. I hope they rediscover their original value proposition someday.

Went for drinks (excellent), chips and guacamole (also excellent) and to chat. All was well in that arena until the musician started to play and it was too loud. It's a small place so needed a bit of adjustment. We may have stayed for another round, but it got uncomfortable.Next time!
