Janice was so fun to hang out with. We came in from the rain and had a blast. It's a small tasting room but full of stories and ambiance. Think Cheers, but with wine. Loved it. Their cab franc and consortium wine are my recommendations.

Great customer service, Janice was very informative about Carmel and the surrounding area. The prices were great and the Cab Franc lives up to all the hype!

I stopped in Shale Canyon for the first time today and had a lovely experience. I have been wine tasting in Carmel numerous times, but I had never been to this room. They had a unique selection of red wines (including some blends) you won't find anywhere else in Carmel. They had no pinot noirs, which was great for me because I'm not a pinot fan, and only 1 white wine (chardonnay). If you only like white wines, I'd suggest you go elsewhere (Albatross Ridge), but if you love reds and are looking for a break from all the pinot noirs in a low key and friendly environment, this is the place! Barb was working while I was there, and she was amazing, so friendly, and fun to talk to! I had a great time and will be back. Thank you!

Shale Canyon is AMAZING. Pure delight - the ambiance, the wines, everything was on point. But hold on to your glasses because Manager Janice took it to a whole new level! Her passion for wine, infectious enthusiasm, personable personality, and incredible hospitality made our tasting experience the most unforgettable. Shale Canyon Wines is a MUST-visit, and Janice is the secret ingredient that makes it extraordinary. Trust me, you won't just savor the wines; you'll savor the memories. Cheers to Janice - she is literally the best, I felt like I've known her forever!

A small tasting room and it really gives a mom and pop feel without much decoration. It's dog friendly so the fur babies can stay inside. We tried the 5 on the tasting menu, from Merlot, Mourvèdre to ZMR and Tempranillo, I personally think the wine smells fine but tasted not good. They seriously need to let the wine breathe before tasting. The only exception applies to the cab franc where we asked for a tasting and it was from a new bottle and the taste was good! Got depth, rich flavor and tanning but no bad after taste. The winery was managed by one girl only and she was very friendly. For $60 of wine purchase you can waive a tasting fee, which was $25. If you are not a cab franc fan, I would suggest Windy Oaks. But Shake Canyon has a bigger variety of grapes coming from a much smaller 7 acre estate.

Loved their wines that we tried in their tasting room in Carmel. Janice was just so nice. Thanks for referring us to the Fisherman's grotto! We had a wonderful dinner there.

I went here with my partner yesterday and we were served by Janice, one of the most bubbly and kind people we’ve met in hospitality in a long time! She told us stories about the town, about people she has met and some folklore. She also took a lot of time to hear what we wanted out of our wine tasting experience. She told us all about the wine and where it came from and how it was inspired. As someone who prefers white wine, their reds were really good and sat really well with me. Loved the whole experience and we will definitely be back the next time we visit!

Fabulous wines, deep and flavorful. I also tried their Chardonnay today which was a lovely surprise - it had an oakey, buttery flavor without being over the top - lovely light wine choice. Janice in the tasting room was the perfect host. She was super knowledgeable and a delight to talk to. I would definitely recommend this winery. It is a little hard to find as the tasting room is located down a little alley way in Carmel-by-the-Sea but well worth a visit! Cheers!

This was a great wine tasting experience. Janice was so nice and knowledgeable! She was great company and service while we tasted the wonderful selection of Estate bottled wines. Janice helped make our wine tasting experience even better by giving us other local recommendations for food and wine. We will be coming back to Shale Canyon Wines tasting in future visits to Carmel!!

Someone recommended this tasting room to us in Carmel-by-the-sea, and it couldn’t have been better! Janice was incredible. Told us about the history of the wines, how to taste, each varietal, and gave us local recommendations. This place was quaint, local to Carmel, and the wines were amazing!

I love to go wine tasting to discover great wines before purchasing the bottle. I especially enjoyed this tasting room the lovely woman by the name of Janice who poured the wine was such a delight she made all of the guests feel right at home and kept us all entertained with her humor and pleasant conversation. She made the whole experience such a joy.

We did a wine tasting at Shale Canyon wines and loved it! Our sommelier was super helpful and knowledgeable and the wines were delicious - I'd say it was some of the best wines I've had at a tasting. We got two bottles and look forward to enjoying!
