As a tourist from Austria with a deep appreciation for a good steak, I have to say: The Hitching Post absolutely nailed it.
Everything about the experience was smooth and spot-on. No frills, no fuss - just excellent service and even better food. The steaks were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly high quality. You know when you take the first bite and you just know you’re in for a good evening? That was it.
The staff was professional and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere had just the right balance of relaxed and refined. No single over-the-top moment - just consistently great service and an obvious pride in what they do.
If you’re anywhere nearby and love a proper steak, do yourself a favor and go. This place delivers exactly what you’re hoping for when you walk into a steakhouse - and then some :)

First time ever eating here, service was top notch and incredibly friendly staff. I usually always order my steaks rare as most places have a tendency to overcook them. I assumed a place where they cook steaks for a living would be different, apparently I was wrong. I ordered the 15oz sirloin medium rare and instead got a sirloin that was basically well done 🤦♂️. For $70 this was ridiculous, every other medium steak at the table was perfectly cooked but my medium rare was dry and way overcooked. It was still a good steak, but not what I asked for. Granted I could have made a fuss and returned it, but I was starving and just ate it. Next time I’ll just go to Shaws, they know what a medium rare looks like.

Recently visited here with family. The service was top notch. The food was outstanding. The grilled artichoke was my favorite. Definitely will be back for the delicious food. Highly recommend making a reservation.

The place is out in the middle of nowhere, where there is no cell service, which is alright because it provides an opportunity to connect with the people you dine with. I went to Hitching Post on my birthday with co-workers, and we all enjoyed our meal. Our streaks were seasoned and cooked to perfection. For a 4 course steak dinner meal, you can't beat the price and quality of the food and level of service. Reservations are highly recommended as this place can fill up quickly. Two thumbs up!

Just loved everything about this place. Pricey but we'll worth it for amazing food.
I’m going to start off by saying this was my second time coming here first time had no complaints how ever I went to hitching post tonight on me and my boyfriends anniversary and we’re seated and greeted the server was very nice then my boyfriend got his shrimp cocktail with a long black hair in it they traded it out but the server didn’t say much we got our steaks which were delicious but fries tasted old and were pretty soggy by the time we got them went to take a bite of bread and it was hard as a rock also I am not sure if this is just here but I saw the chief touching everything with his bare hands we sat right next to the window so steaks French fries skewers everything had been touched then he started wiping his forehead for which I assume was to get rid of sweat not once did I see him walk away to wash his hands I was so disappointed this evening
If you're on the central coast, don't believe the hype... The Hitching Post is hands down the best steakhouse in the area.

OMG it was amazing. Best meal, my ribeye was cooked perfectly as was my wife's Filet Mignon. Watch them cooking the steaks over a wood BBQ right there in the restaurant. We had been told about a steakhouse, The Hitching Post, in the sleepy little town of Casamilia. The meals include a relish dish, salad, iced tea or coffee, French bread, and ice cream. Oh, this is our new place to go. Reservations are a good idea.
Food was good. Our filet mignon, excellent and all the accompaniments. But very loud restaurant and very dark. Could hardly read our menu. Service was rapid. We had four different waitresses and they were so quick to serve other customers we felt neglected...
