3.5 stars. I've been coming here since my favorite local donut shop (Castro Valley Donuts) closed its doors. So far, Rudy's is the best alternative I've found in the area. 4 stars for the Donuts: they are consistently good and have a good selection. 5 stars for the service: the ladies here are the absolute sweetest. 3 stars for the price: more expensive than the typical old school donut shop. 2 stars for the patrons: some regular old timers keep staring at me when I go there, from the moment I pull up in the parking lot to the moment I pull out. They stare right at me through the windows, turning their heads to look in my direction. It makes me uncomfortable enough to think twice about coming here.

This is your classic hometown donut spot. Used to go here all of the time in high school, but not as much lately as I'm living further away. The donuts are fresh and fantastic, they have good coffee, and the staff are very friendly. Perhaps the best part of his donut shop is the clientele: friendly, open, relatable people make this a welcoming place to enjoy breakfast and some light hearted conversation.

Second time trying this spot since our usual is closed on Sundays. First time we tried Rudy's I wasn't happy but decided to give it another shot since it's close to us. We bought maple, chocolate , and powdered donuts. They were extremely dry just like the first time. Besides being dry , the maple flavor was very odd. We love donuts in this house and I wasn't the only one who thought this. The workers were extremely friendly so I almost feel bad for even writing this , but it's my honest review. My sister said the powder donuts were "okay" I definitely don't think these donuts are made fresh.

This place is not good. They sell day old donuts and it's very pricey. Definitely stale... very upset they would sell day old donuts... not sure why people are raving about this place

Best donuts ever! I'm a donut snob since I'm not going to intake that many calories on a bad doughnut or even a good donut, I want Exceptional donuts!! Their custard is so good and tastes homemade, they put a fat layer of chocolate / maple on the bars. I used to go there on my way to school then later when I'd drive by it going to work. I haven't been there in probably geeze definitely 12 years but I'm thinking more like 2004... my point is nothing has changed, the setup of the tables the staff!!! These wonderful ladies must own this place! Anyway.... The best donuts Ive ever had (and I was a fat little kid lol) (not anymore I'm picky about what I'll waste my caloric intake for and Rudy's is worth it). As far as ambiance, they didn't recognize me, thank goodness cuz I was a chunk! Anyway lol, they still treated me like I was a regular and I instantly felt at home... in a good way . Try a maple or chocolate bar with custard in it, you won't believe the amount of custard you get and the thick layer of chocolate or maple, I thin repeating myself but this place is the best donut place, the absolute best!!!
There are a couple of reviews claiming the donuts are"stale". I have eaten stale donuts so know what they taste like. I've never, EVER had a stale/day old donut at Rudy's. These donuts sell out VERY fast, so you have to get there early to get what you want. I am positive if your donut doesn't please you, the staff will make it right. And that would be the right thing to do rather than leaving an undeserved one star review.

The donuts did not seem fresh at all!! Stale and old. Why sell donuts from the day before if not fresh? I came in at 530am too!! Also expensive compared to others. I been here about 3x giving it a shot each time and they still fail me. I have never had a fresh donut. The chocolate on the donut even looked stale and dark. The donut holes were not real donut holes. It was really embarrassing especially when i bought a dozen for my work and they also comment the same things... Lee's donut is only a few streets down they are always fresh where I'll be taking my service
