“First off, this place has been here for as long as I can remember. During my college years, I have seen this place and almost 20 years later, it is still here. Longevity in the restaurant business is tough so when looking for a place to add to my takeout list as a new resident to Castro Valley, I had to give this place a try.

I have been in Castro Valley for about 7 months now and have gotten take out from here at least 5 times and every single time, my wife and I have been greeted and treated with love by the owners. Were there a few times where I had to wait a little while longer because of how busy they were or issues in the kitchen? Of course yes, stuff like that happens. I am a patient and understanding person. What is always consistent is the warmth that the owner just seems to emit, it must be the Thai culture and personality as having traveled to Thailand more than a handful of times, I felt the the love from the people.

Now for the food. We usually order pad see eww, crab fried rice, angel wings and a few currys. The food always comes super hot and delicious, havent had a bad experience yet with the food. Honestly, what keeps me coming back is the lady that runs the place, I adore her and the love she treats people with.”

“Real, honest BBQ. I had the 2 meat combo with brisket, ribs, mac & cheese and potato salad. Best BBQ I have had since I was in Austin Texas! The owner was working hard with the rest of his employees and was the one to take my order. He seemed very nice and was helpful. I work within walking distance so I can see myself becoming a regular here. Canyons is an excellent addition to Castro Valley's food scene.”

“They have really great service super fast delivery and if you eat here often or not they are predictable and each dish we have tried from the rigatone bolognese to the house spaghetti to the spicy chicken is fantastic. The experience is above average time and time again by ourselves (me and my daughter) or with friends (we have brought about 6 different people who have shared our enthusiasm) this restaurant is a absolutely fantastic experience. I wanna go tomorrow just thinking of it now. Highly recommend sopping by as it is one of Castro Valleys nicest little places.”

“I've been in search of a great chocolate chip cookie for some time now and I think I've finally found a winner at Bake it up with their Brown butter chocolate chip cookie! I've also tried the chocolate chip banana bread which is also 🔥 and the serving, enough for 3 people. They also have croissants, cakes and coffee. It seems every time I come to Castro Valley a new bakery has taken over the store front. I really, really hope this one makes it.”

“Pizza Express in Castro Valley really took me back. Used to walk from Creekside over to the Center spot just to grab a dollar slice as a kid still hits the same.

Yeah, it’s a little more now, but the slices are huge (bigger than Costco) and honestly worth it. The guy inside with the glasses was super cool too great service.

We paid just over $20 for two big slices, a soda, and a cake. Solid deal, good food, and they’re still open late for dine-in. Glad to see they’re still doing their thing.”

“We had food catered & delivered from them. All the food was authentic, super tasty, well packaged and presented. Everyone loved it & mentioned multiple times. I recommend them wholeheartedly. We ordered Chicken Curry, Dal Makhani, Paneer Veggie Sabji, Raita, Naan, Rice, Salad & Rose Kheer. Rose Kheer was so yummy. Chicken Curry tasted homemade Punjabi. It was delicious. Paneer Sabji & Daal were also very yummy. Spices were mild. You can't go wrong by ordering from them.”

“I can't believe I haven't written a review for a business my kids and I frequent all the time! We've been coming to Always Yours since it opened. Hands down they have the best drinks, cookies, macarons, cakes, and now salt bread! I always come to get treats for my kid's teachers (for their birthdays, teacher appreciation week, just because, etc.). I've brought friends visiting the Bay Area to this bakery, which they have loved. Always Yours also has fun cup sleeve events, macaron classes and afternoon tea from time to time. We love supporting small businesses and this one is definitely worth supporting!

P.S. with all these drink places popping up in the area...we still think the drinks at Always Yours not only taste better, but also are of higher quality.”

“I had a great experience at this Thai restaurant. It has a nice cozy mom n’ pop atmosphere to it. Service was good, I ordered a cup of tom yum soup with a side of jasmine rice and it was very yummy. My friend who I went with is from Castro Valley and they always order the Pad Kee Mao. Super solid option if you’re craving noodles and a bit of spice! This is just my preference but I really liked how they used glass cups for water rather than plastic like how most restaurants use. The only thing that I wish they included on their menu is a papaya salad. I love papaya salad so I was a bit disappointed when I couldn’t find it on the menu. Overall, this was a solid Thai restaurant so I would recommend trying it and supporting their small business!”

“Lake Chabot is a great place to walk - shorter walks or even the 9 mile very scenic loop around the Lake starting and ending at the Marina Snack Bar/Cafe. Not much of a place to eat through very limited selection - much much less than a 7-11.”

The place is small and kinda casual but the lady working was so sweet and patient while I figured out what to order. Ended up also trying the spring rolls and they were fresh and crunchy, totally worth it. Already planning my next trip back cause im craving that soup again.”

“Finally, was able to try this location. Small dining-in area but most will take out anyway. I had the combo fried fish platter. It was fantastic, although the fish portion was a bit overcooked but it was still tasty. It also came w/fried oysters and fried prawns with the obligatory french fries side. I took off a star on the food part (for the overcooked fish - it was a sole/flounder-like fish that was probably more than dipped in the frying medium - but like I said, it was still tasty). I still gave a 5-star overall rating. All the rest of the fish was fried/cooked perfectly. They oysters were especially good. I think on my next visit, I'll get oyster platter. The french fries were excellent too but there were lots of them, I couldn't finish them all. They also have poke, sushi/sashimi and that will sampled on the upcoming returns. They're open every day at 11am. I will be back......”

“I had a great experience at Happy Lemon! While waiting for my order, I noticed a young male staff member thoughtfully washing his hands after handling money from a customer. It was such a simple gesture, but it really stood out to me and made the whole visit feel even more pleasant and hygienic. It gave me even more confidence in how they handle everything. And of course, my mango matcha smoothie was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and just the right balance of sweet and earthy. Will definitely be coming back!”

“Visited this place for the first time and liked it. Food is OK and the portion is descent. I found the drinks very sweet, and wish there could be an option to add less sugar. Order a chicken salad sandwich that kind of tasted good but had a fishy smell to it (may be due to Tuna being served there as well).
Atmosphere is cozy and is a great place if you need a corner to hang out with a friend over coffee.
Service is fast and cordial- sweet couple running this place.
Will definitely re-visit to experience this place again.”

“Been eating at Loards for decades. I am visiting from another state and use to live in CV. The ice cream taste is average/good. The young ladies working there are very kind and great hosts/servers. Loards has been a family tradition for me since the 70s.”

She said thank you and asked me if there was anything else she could do for me . I stop coming to this location because of the service but decided to give it another chance because I live so close. “General poor service. Milk purchased here often goes bad within three days and long before the expiration date. Manager wasn't interested in why. All kinds of water on the floors from refrigerator and freezer leaks. I tried complaining to corporate but no interest. Out of stock on about 15% of the items I needed but that may be common now days.

I wanted to update my review. I'm happy to say that things have improved at this store. The staff seems more helpful and even a bit happier. They seem to have things in stock now and all the refrigerator and freezer leaks seem to be repaired. I think they put some investment back into the store. Changing my rating from 2 to 4.”

“Who would have expected a really good bagel place in Castro Valley? And yet this place consistently impresses. The service is beyond reproach, polite but professional with a smile. The bagels are great: bready, just chewy enough but not so much that it will hurt your jaw, crisp on the outside. Toothsome, would be a good way to describe them. The cream cheese is always fresh and tasty, Overall, for the area, a very good bagel place. PS Try the crepe with whipped cream and Strawberries, yummy!!”
