If you're tired of the real noisy and a bit stressful AYCE sushi places, this is the place to go to. It's a more relaxed and quiet dining experience here. You're not constantly looking at the menu trying to figure out what you're going to order for your next round. Unlike AYCE sushi places, the rice ratio in the sushi is just right. AYCE sushi places tend to overload each sushi piece with more rice. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The small parking lot gets full easily but you can also park for free on the street. Very good chirashi dinner! The sushi here is very fresh.

First and last. Such an awkward experience.
I overheard the owner confront a table next to ours about leaving a better tip or don’t come back. Since when does a business dictate how much tip a customer should leave? Nobody should be treated like that.
Reply to your response:
Your response proved my point of the owner confronting the table next to us. Shame on you for dictating how much a tip ought to be and more so, for confronting your customers openly to the extent that others could hear. You made it very awkward for us. I’m not returning and neither are my friends. There is no need to openly embarrass and confront your customers. Tips are optional and voluntary and ought to be left at the discretion of the customer. Thank you for understanding!

I’m so sorry to post this but I must.
READ the other reviews regarding TIPPING here. You MUST tip them well or they’ll ban you from the restaurant!
We’re a longtime customer, eating here 20-30+ times. The food is great and prices are good. But the culture there is INSANE. If you don’t tip ENOUGH.
Today we were approached by the Asian hostess after giving a 6% tip on a $138 bill. She asked “is everything OK? Did you have any problems with the food or service?”
I said “no, it was delicious, all good, why?”
“Because my manager has identified that the past 2-3 times you tip very little (on average I tip 5-6%, that's just what I believe is right for the service), otherwise I pay my bill no problem, eating at $60pp.
She ended up saying that “my manager said that if you don’t tip atleast 10%, we can’t continue to serve you”.
Unbelievable. The unspoken rule is totally broken at this place. We’ve had a little issue with them before regarding 1 $7 missing item from our $250 check and they refused to waive it, making a scene about it. So we paid the full bill, no tip. We’re within our right, we pay the bill, tip is optional.
But to be approached by the hostess and told if you don’t pay at least 10% you can’t come here, is insane!
She said “the minimum here is 15%” (referencing the minimum tip on the pre-set tip options auto generated by the receipt).
Unreal to be honest. I even asked one of the young waitresses who I’ve been served many times and she defended the decision saying yeah 15% is the standard across America it’s common courtesy so yeah we can’t serve you.
I’m like “then why not make it a mandatory part of the menu like many restaurants do?”
She didn’t seem to understand.
Sorry mutsumi. Your sushi is delicious. But wow, the culture there is insane. I’m so sad to now never go back because the food is good but wow, NO SHAME!
In the end, they're losing a customer that goes atleast 1x/mo at $60-$70pp +5% tip. Why they choose to alienate a good spending regular is irrational. They'll now lose $1,500+ in annual revenue ($130*12 visits) + $93 in tips because of an extra $100 in tips.... Smart! Arigato!

Amazing, food was sooooo good and the price is reasonable. The quality is 10 out of 10. The oysters and the soft shell crab were so freakin finger licking good. Loved it, and I’m coming back for sure.

3 stars for Service because some service is 5 stars and other is minus 5 stars , especially with hosting. While one hostess will make you feel so welcome (weekdays) another one will just not be happy you came in (weekend).
Too bad, this is the best sushi palce I have found outside of Japan.

Manager who doesn't speak English is the rudest and most unprofessional person on this earth. He literally dropped chunk of bluefin tuna on the floor and 30 seconds after picked it up from the floor and put it next to other fishes. I was on the bar watching him and when I tried to tell him something he just said to the other chef something in another language and went back into kitchen.

The service was excellent 👌. Sashimi was, as expected, fresh, but the fish slices were, in my opinion, too thin such that the flavour and texture of the different types of fish did not come through.
The overall taste was good with the accompaniment of fresh radish and shiso leaves , along with the generous amount of wasabi and pickled ginger.
Tempura was crispy, and we enjoyed the fresh prawns as much as the vegetables.

I went here because of recommendations from several redditors and unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. Ordered my usual faves: unagi, salmon skin roll and crispy rice with spicy tuna... they were all a bit on a bland side and the sushi rice was mediocre. The crispy rice was a bit too crunchy and hard. Service was friendly and quick, but the ambience was kinda sparse. Price was surprisingly reasonable, at least compared to Honshu sushi nearby.

really kind staff :) Food is good, but is a bit different from when it was omino sushi. spicy tuna roll has always had peanut butter, but I could never taste it—atleast up until now. It’s still good, but the peanut flavor distracts from the tuna. Sea bass cut roll is still pretty good.

Came here because it was late. Had to wait a bit. Sushi was ok, a bit on the pricey side...after all it's a sushi place...like hundreds of others in LA...hot sake was good though. ...not likely to return....no reason to.

I’ve been coming here since 1987 when it was Sasa sushi. It was great then. In 1989 it changed hands and became a Omino Sushi. That was epic! Best sushi I’ve ever had in all my life hands-down! Throughout the recessions, I still came once a week, even though I couldn’t afford it.
Then I moved to Colorado and Omino changed Hans. They retired. Now it is a Mutsumi Sushi.
Staff is unbelievable. Super friendly always very welcoming. Great place. Sushi is typically expensive and this place is no different. But the food quality is excellent! Maybe not quite like Omino but still incredible! Highly recommend!

A real authentic sushi restaurant! All my favorites are fresh and perfectly prepared (Salmon Nigri, salmon roe, yellowtail, tuna), but the real gem of this place is in their rotating specials. Every time I come, they've got something new and delicious on the specials board. Today we had live scallop, which was just so light and fresh, and the sweet live shrimp was as delicious as it was gorgeous! The staff is incredibly attentive, and really helpful if you're ever overwhelmed or unsure what to order.Need to take someone out for good sushi in the valley? Take them here; they'll definitely be impressed!
