Overall, a very good experience. This was our first time here and we were pretty pleased. We both ordered steaks and they were good cuts of meat, but a little overcooked for both our requests but not enough to send them back. Ordered one cocktail and it was very tasty. Service was good, but could have been more attentive but no issues with the service we did receive. We would likely go back for happy hour and give that a try in the bar versus another full meal in the dining room.
We typically have had a good experience at The Grill; however, this dinner service was exceptionally poor. Three of the four dinners were not satisfactory - the halibut was dry and over cooked; the meat on the French dip appeared to be lunch meat; and the shrimp dish was dry and not tasty. Our drink order took forever, and we were told that the bar was “slammed”. We also had to wait for over an hour for our food to be served. We were seated at 6:30 and with all the delays we didn't leave until after 9:30. To make the evening even more unbearable, we were hustled out because of a private event. If we had been served in a timely fashion, The Grill wouldn't have had to hustle patrons out. Unfortunately, the whole experience left us with a sour perception. There are other restaurants in the area that we will be visiting.
Visited September 26th. As everyone knows I always provide a receipt for all places! This place is inside the Hotel Diamond in Chico.
Some reviews said they were open at 1130am..wrong! They open at 3pm in the bar and 4pm for dinner ( see picture of hours). They are located right next to the Rawbar( awesome suishi place).
The hotel itself was built in the 1930s according to the nice front desk man. The restaurant and bar is to the left of the lobby but can be accessed through the lobby or it's designated door. Lobby is nostalgic and reminiscent of the 1930s vibe.
There is an elevator to get to all floors!( or the stairs for cardio!).
It had a cool menu and drink list but will have to try again when I am in the area.
The service was great and as my husband and I were leaving an employee asked how our meal was. The staff was welcoming and kind and the food was terrific.
Food was subpar, with obvious corners cut for cost savings, and the prices were outrageous for the food quality. Service was excellent. Restaurant was empty.
The Grill did not receive notice of our reservation through Open Table. .Since it was not crowded, we were able to be seated at the time we reserved...however....they were also unaware that it was an 84th birthday celebration in regard to special requests made with the reservation. Very disappointing.
Flatiron steake salad was good. The steak and cheese was just right. The rest was just alright could have some bread. Service was very good.
A Bittersweet Experience My wife and I had reservations at The Grill to celebrate our anniversary — a restaurant we've enjoyed many times before. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated, and the evening began on a promising note. Bread and butter were quickly brought out, along with water, and we appreciated the quiet, elegant atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable dinner. Our server greeted us warmly and took our drink orders — cranberry juice and lemonade, as we don't drink alcohol. At this point, the service was attentive and professional. For our appetizer, we ordered calamari, which arrived hot, crispy, and well-seasoned — a great start. For the main course, my wife ordered the Ribeye steak, medium rare, and I selected the Diamond Seabass (Chilean sea bass). Both dishes were beautifully plated and arrived promptly. However, when my wife cut into her steak, she found it nearly raw, with only a light sear. The green beans accompanying the steak were undercooked and lacked seasoning, which was disappointing. Given the $54 price for the steak and $38 for the sea bass, we expected more precise execution. To the server's credit, she returned soon after to check on our meal. Upon mentioning the undercooked steak, she immediately acknowledged the issue and assured us it would be corrected. A new Ribeye arrived cooked to the correct medium rare, which we appreciated. However, by the time my wife resumed her meal, my sea bass had cooled to room temperature — far from ideal. This detracted from an otherwise flavorful dish. We ended the meal with a lemon bar for dessert, which was bright, tart, and delicious — a nice conclusion. While the service and atmosphere were excellent, the kitchen's missteps left us underwhelmed on such a special occasion. We've had consistently great experiences at The Grill before, making this visit feel especially disappointing. It wasn't a total letdown, but it certainly didn't meet the high standard we've come to expect. -Charles
They were super accommodating with our large group and they were willing to take us early than our reservation. The server and all the employees were super nice and attentive. Also, to top it off the drinks and the food were delicious.
Ive eaten at The Grill 4 times. I have never had a dish I didnt like. The food is amazing and fresh. The staff is just superior. Today my hubby and I went for the mothers day brunch buffett. WoW the menu was filled with delightful offerings. I highly recommend!!

I took my mom and daughter to the Mother's Day Buffet and it was extremely disappointing. The buffet was visually unappetizing; it was not replenished or refreshed, and there were several nearly empty trays and bowls left out for us to scrape from. The food that was available looked dried out or mushy. When I asked if they could replenish the buffet table, the staff said they were sorry, agreed it ddi not look great, but no. The quality and taste of the food was not good. The buffet set me back $190, the food and experience was awful.
We had the Mother's Day brunch. The food was decent. The buffet table was very messy and they had enough staff to keep it wiped up. Some of the staff was a bit aloof and not very attentive or presentable. Some of the staff was very friendly. The crab legs, the desserts, and the cocktails were delicious. Paid $160 for two people buffet lunch including tip.
We were told after we sat down that it was a buffet only for $60 a person. It was not advertised anywhere on their website.
Great atmosphere and excellent cocktails. The bar is mostly what brings me here. There is a little inconsistency with the food quality. I've had great menu items and not great ones.
A very pleasant experience, excellent service, quiet music, comfortable seating, and wonderful food. We will definitely be back for brunch, but we also love it for dinner!
