We recently visited this Himalayan restaurant and unfortunately had a disappointing experience, mainly due to poor service and lack of communication.

From the start, the server seemed impatient and difficult to communicate with. When we asked questions or tried to clarify things, she appeared irritated and not very welcoming. She mentioned they were “closing soon,” and I specifically asked if we could still dine in. She said yes, so we assumed it was fine — but later we were told we were charged an 18% “large party” fee (even though we were only a group of five). The menu clearly stated that the fee applies to parties of six or more.

When my coworker called afterward to ask about the charge, the staff member explained it was because we stayed between 2–3 PM, even though they were supposed to be closed. That was never communicated to us at any point. If they had simply told us there would be an extra charge or that the kitchen was closing, we would have understood and chosen to leave.

The overall service felt unwelcoming. Our server never offered to-go boxes and made it seem like she didn’t want to be there. The atmosphere lacked the hospitality we expected. My portion — one entrée and one appetizer — ended up costing $45 after the unexpected 18% charge (an extra $21 on the bill). We even left an additional $15 tip, not realizing the service fee had already been added, which was frustrating considering how poor the service was.

On a positive note, the food itself was good, and none of us had any issues after eating it. However, because of the service experience, lack of clear communication, and the unexpected charges, I will not be returning. For the price and treatment, it simply wasn’t worth it.

Himalayan House is one of our most favorite restaurants! We eat there very often because we love our favorites! The salmon is the best, and their tandoori's as well. We think their naan is wonderful--hot, thick and melt in your mouth--better than in so many other places. A cup of dal comes as an appetizer with any order, served nice and hot. Salads are large and delicious. Very friendly staff--just our favorite overall.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Himalayan House in Chula Vista is a gem! The Chicken Biryani was fragrant and flavorful, the garlic naan soft and fresh, and the momos absolutely delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service was excellent — warm, attentive, and welcoming. Generous portions, authentic taste, and great hospitality. Highly recommend!

It was late, just before closing hours. They practically asked us to leave, but the food was delicious.

I ordered paneer masala and it was literally water, it’s like they ran out of it and added water to a portion they had and gave me a bland flavor less portion. The paneer was super soft and bland and sour. I also had the vegetable samosas and it was disgusting, it was dry and no flavor with a bunch of seeds inside that were overwhelming to taste. I ended up getting sick from this and would never recommend to order from here. I’m shocked that this is Indian cuisine. Also their naan tastes like play dough ! How is that even possible !!!
