This cute little mochi shop is family owned and is a little gem in heart of Chula Vista. The freshly made mochi is light and fluffy, melt-in- your-mouth tender and have a generous variety of delicate and delicious flavors! All that is offered with friendly and polite service, you cannot go wrong. Enjoy!

Absolutely delicious mochi, made fresh daily! The grape mochi (purple one) was an unexpected favorite, it had a fresh whole grape inside!

Mochi is freshly made and can be freezed for up to 3 months if you have extras. I enjoyed the flavors matcha, coconut, and coffee the best. It's really good with ice cream!

Best fresh mochi in San Diego! If your only experience with mochi was with ice cream, this is a must try. Fresh mochi is so soft and flavorful. This isn't a restaurant, it is a counter service bakery. No sit down areas, so plan to just pick-up.

Been wanting to try this place for a while and I finally got to try their mochi. It did not disappoint. I order diferente types with and without filling and both were delicious. The ones with filling are more sweet but not so sweet you can't finish it. The service was good, they were friendly and answered my first timer questions. I would recommend and come back for more

Cute little spot in Chula. Parking is pretty easy. They have a wide variety of mochi to choose from. The mochi is super soft, so much better than grocery store mochi lol. They also have a chewy version if you want something more chewy.Everything we've tried was good. They're pretty generous on the fillings. The person working the front was very nice and helpful!

I was originally looking for doughnuts, and the results that came up were less than compelling. I revised my search to bakeries instead, and Hogetsu Bakery caught my attention. It's a little gem in such an unassuming location, a strip mall. The young person who was working was so helpful and kind. They answered my question regarding the sweetness level of white bean in comparison to red bean. I'm so glad I went with the peach apricot with the white bean filling. It wasn't as sweet as my past experience with red bean. The consistency of the mochi was just perfect. I will definitely stop by again in the future.

THIS PLACE WAS INCREDIBLE. I am a big fan of mochi and I saw that these were made fresh. I could definitely taste the freshness and I love the variety of flavors. I really liked the apricot and grape ones. They had pieces of the fruit inside the mochi along with the bean filling. The worker was super sweet and patient. I love the atmosphere in the tiny shot. There is a large parking lot so parking is easy. I would definitely come back again. I love fresh mochi and I recommend coming here for authentic mochi!

I've been going to Hogetsu Bakery since 2000 (stopped in 2020 due to COVID). It's my favorite place for mochi and manju. To my surprise I found out it's under new ownership. The shop looks very modern. Unfortunately they don't have any manju (my favorite). They do have a selection of flavored mochi.I bought a mixed dozen mochi's (original rice cake, flavored mochi, green tea, red bean, & white bean). I spent over $30.The flavored mochi's were good, soft & pliable (I ❤️ the coconut flavored). The original rice cake/mochi was hard & chewy, I'm used to the soft pliable texture. The green tea & red bean filling were good.I was disappointed with the white bean filling...it was grainy and bland ?The pictures are the manju desserts they no longer have.I hope they start making them.

A hidden gem? All of the mochi rice cakes were excellent to good. "Grandma" owner was very friendly. I hope the store stays in business in years to come.

10/5 stars!!! Absolute gem of a shop. I grew up in k-town LA and lived a few years in Japan as well, which makes it hard for me to find truly delicious asian shops. The mochi here has superb (feels like it just melts) texture plus they have stayed true to the Japanese sweetness level for the fillings: not-too-sweet. Perfect for giving as a gift or to enjoy with loved ones. Parking is easy as well. No pictures because I inhaled them.... :D
